I did look at getting to the Falls (was recommended by a couple of the locals), but I only had a couple of days in the NW and the time was starting to tick by - was actually staying at a friend's place in a small logging town on the Columbia river, up in Washington state. Very nice setting.

Papa if you are talking Mt St Helens and want to walk up to the eruption rim they only give out 100 hiking permits per day and it'll need to be pre-booked. We fell foul of this last month and couldn't do it.
