.. Nice to see respect for the youngest English keeper .. Hats off. He was canny ..
.. Turned it off and watched Family Guy as didn't want to watch the shoot out. Thought it would be finished only to see the save and the pen. Great stuff ..

well done to dyer for holding his nerve(why no vardy?)and to evertons and TYNE and wear born pickford for 2 great saves, credit goes to the bradford city and everton goalkeeping coaches where piggers has played the most of his 1st team games!
Comes accross as a nice lad. Bit immature on the telly, but a decent lad.
Has done well so far but of I was to nit pick I think his lack of height will cost England. A taller keeper would have stopped the Belgium goal and held that shot that led to the corner that led to the goal against Columbia.
Good luck to him though.
Hmmmm. Have another look:

Top save but I think this one’s even better.

And Given is about the same height as Pickford as was also Steve Harper. Goalies of that height have to make up for this by being more alert, quicker at positioning and quicker speed of reaction.
I know well from experience as I played in goal for several teams in my youth but unfortunately for me stopped growing at the age of 15, then being only just over 5'8". My two lads both made up for it though having good school and college careers both at 6'2".
Willie McFaul was exceptional though being under 5'9" which even then was increadibly small for a goalie. Just shows what a difference agility, speed of reaction and positioning make to a good G.K. As TerryMac will confirm.
He's so punchable.
