I also went to a womens international game at Millmoor around 1991, England v Italy.
Its getting more exposure now and certainly more commercial funding.
In the 70s the England women's captain was from Rawmarsh, long before the game had the exposure it has today. Growing up with her, age for age she wasn't as good as the best male players who went on to sign professional contracts but she was certainly as good as the better than average boys. I suppose if we were able to see what PNE were like when they won the first league title 130 years ago it would be laughable compared to today's standard. Once the women's game has had the same number of years of development as the men's game I'm sure it will be a more polished offering. For what it's worth, despite the improvement in fitness, technique, facilities, equipment etc. I'm not sure the men's game is a better form of entertainment than it was 40 years ago when it had more of the rough edges that the women's game shows today.
