I think it's harsh but it's your opinion. I only pointed out the bit that was factually incorrect.

How many times did Graham Souness, Billy Bremner etc foul people and get away with it and yet were considered some of the best players the game has seen. Not for a moment suggesting that Connolly is in that bracket of course, but I've seen commentators lauding players for making a foul at just the right time. Connollly got ragged on here earlier in the season for doing exactly that. Give the guy a break and look at how poorly we defend as a team not just one guy. Just my opinion of course 👍

I'll also add that we lost to Livingston because all 10 outfield players failed to turn up not just Connolly. It was the most insipid and gutless performance I've seen in some time, and as we know there are plenty to choose from.

Your edit has put your reply out of context.

The guy is a pro. He's had plenty of time to bed into our team. If there's a thread about the defence, about Reynolds or Edwards I'll offer views on them there.

I alluded to the wider team in my OP.

This thread is about him, not the team. He is only comparable to the players you mention because they were also footballers. He's nowhere near Sounness or Bremner and they played in different times.

You're right about the thread being about Connolly, but you're stating that he is to blame for the loss of 2 points against St Johnstone. I have to disagree with that - at 1-0 up against 10 men, it's up to the whole team to capitalise on that advantage and push on to score more goals and win the game, not defend a slender advantage and let the 10 men back into it. Then at 1-1, there was still plenty of time to raise their game and retake the lead but they didn't do that. That is not solely down to Mark Connolly, that is the entire team including any subs who played that day.

Yeah, seems every time I try to edit it deletes the post altogether. Hadn't realised you'd be so quick off the mark to reply and thought it would make sense. Anyway like I said it's just about opinion. I did say I wasn't comparing him to them in terms of ability but simply explaining that fouls are accepted as part of the game and we would lose a hell of a lot more games if we stopped utilising them. As I also said, we defend very poorly as a team and think it's unfair to single out one guy, that's my opinion.

But if Connolly hadn't f*cked up, and the game continued as it did, we wouldn't have conceded the goal that cost us the win? Same with the Livi game. One error you can let go, these guys are only human after all, but that's two this season already plus the pre-season game. How many more do we have to put up with?

I said in a reply that my point re those two points could be construed as harsh, but his action (insane) and the result which followed are closely linked.
