Yes, but PW has on many occasions said that he didn’t want to upset the equilibrium by having a player being paid much more than the rest.

So a much improved contract for Smith, what then about the others?

Don’t think we will have an option if he doesn’t sign a new contract, his head will be turned if a bigger club comes in for him.Wages, we will only pay what we can afford & a lot more clubs pay much more than we do ask Keiffer Moore.

It’s all about the gap. Smith might already be the highest paid, a “ better” contract might open up a big gap, causing the agents of other players to whisper in their player’s ear.

Causing upset in the camp, something that PW quite rightly has wanted to avoid.

A three or four year contract worth say £15k a week guaranteed regardless of what division he plays in.
Plus win bonuses and scoring bonuses plus a big signing on fee

    Or

Perhaps £4K a week in div one and perhaps £6k a week if RUFC manages to stay in the cship
Not as many win bonuses and less scoring bonuses

Yes he's 30 and I know what I would be doing if I were him
I wouldn't sign any new deal and I'd wait to see if I had no better offers by July 2022

No championship club would offer him a three year contract other than us.When we get promoted we can give him the opportunity of carrying on staying a club he has enjoyed playing at or he goes to another that may not be anywhere near the same.

In his whole career his best spell has been with us.

No real guarantee that he could replicate that anywhere else

I still don’t think there will be many clubs after him and if he goes it will be for the same fee we bought him for.

Two year or a three year deal the outcome will be the same
I really don't think his decision will be based on where he has enjoyed his football. He has a young family to provide for.
Strong rumours both Cardiff and Boro were interested and he's now even better and the league,s top scorer

I did offer up a fan backed investment in post #11 on this thread but I'm still waiting for 'speculators' to step forward

Sadly flour. We are paying more of griggs wage than we are paying Smith who is indeed one of 3 of our top earners.
