Thread: OT Azeem Rafiq inquiry

It's obvious that from my life in Yorkshire, a fair percentage of Yorkshire people are racist, this thread tells me nothing different.

I think you're right Tlc, but the problem is widespread. Whether Yorkshire is any more, or less, racist than other areas of the country is difficult to say.

From my own experience of growing up in Rotherham in the 50s and 60s, discrimination wasn't just a problem related to colour, but was evident if anyone didn't conform to the 'norm'.

It's not a question of having to "love each other". It's more about coexisting without prejudice.

Why do you think communities who are different "dislike the other"? I have to admit to hating the Tory party, but I have friends who vote Tory. I dislike religious dogma, but I have friends who believe differently.

You probably have a point, to a degree I may add though, that ''each community by and large, dislikes the other, but of course you can't say that nowaydays can you.'' I would like to bet that every single person who posts on here has heard and passed on 'banter' but, on reflection of which way we are trying to drive this out, they may have some regrets of having done so in the past.

Just to stand and listen to share and laugh at undertones of racism makes anyone just has guilty as the person saying them but, you do nothing about it because that is life and words will be spoken. If the world thinks it will rid itself of everything racist then it won't.
What we have to try and understand is that the world is changing and attitudes have to change but, it cuts both ways and until people/races get their own house in order, like you mention on your post, then things will never change.

Too many do gooders are now making a living out of all of this now and it's fast becoming a United States mentality of sue for anything 10, 20, 30 years down the line. Yes it's wrong what has come out of Yorkshire CC but they won't be the last as this was probably the scab covering the wound. Next we'll have failed footballers who didn't make the grade looking to sue because someone pissed up their back in the showers.
That is a fair appraisal of what is going on.The mainstream media channels talking about something that happened ten years ago and not concentrating on the islamic extremists coming in to this country terrorising us right now.The extremely well paid civil service at the Home Office should be kicked out and replaced with efficient well qualified people who are not lefty liberal sympathising idiots we have at present. We are an open door to the evil ,it has to stop.BBC have killed off Vaughan so rapidly, pity they weren't as quick with the horrible "BBC lovey" Saville getting sacked which took well over a decade with the notorious cover ups.

The problem is the perception of unfair reporting. Girls get groomed nobody wants to say it for what it is. Racism is never discussed openly and honestly. People are scared to give an honest opinion. Some just go along with it because it’s easier that way. What has happened to the cricketer in this case is not acceptable in any way shape or form. Would the same reporting of this have happened if it was a white person experiencing this ??

    No it wouldn’t.
Oh and for those who don’t know my wife is a person of colour before I get accused of been part of the problem.

I dont know if this has been mentioned on any thread recently, so apologies if it has, but I watched 'Fever Pitch the rise of the premier league on BBC iplayer recently, and the 2nd episode had on it when Eric Cantona drop kicked the Crystal Palace supporter who was giving him some abuse after he was sent off.
I didn't realise that Cantona had initially recieved a 2 week jail sentence which was overturned on appeal, but Les Ferdinand said that he thought that had it been a black player who did what Cantona had done, then he would have gone to prison, and he said he wasn't the only one who thought that.
