The owners are spending a small fortune, they're certainly not breaking even so I don't understand why they're skimping on the most important employee at the club.
Having said that, Luke Williams is the manager and I hope he takes us up and gets a fair crack at it now he's here.
The thing is though no one on here suggested a manager, well not strongly and not in numbers. I don’t know if LWs going to be the man but seems a very well rated coach within football. It’s always easy to say it’s the owners fault if it goes wrong but when no one’s sticking out to people on here then it’s pretty obvious it’s a similar challenge for them too.

If we all wish really, really hard for promotion I'm sure it will happen.
Or as I like to say, when referring to the more negatively inclined on here, 'click your heels together three times' and promotion will happen instantly. It's that simple, I think?!

When haven't the owners skimped on a manager? Ince? Kewell? Backe? Cotterill?

Our current owners have not broken the bank and shown real intent on managers. They're persuing their method. Fair enough, it's their money but without a good manager, and LW may turn out to be one, we won't go up.

I'm not sure the couple of dozen of us on here are actually going to tilt the owners into picking the next manager. I did suggest Pete Wilde but they just didn't listen.
I think Mike Williamson at Gateshead is destined for greater things FWIW.

Agreed they haven't. My question is which ones have? Hardy? Trew? Pavis?

Trew spent a bomb on managers, certainly on the compo when he sacked them all. Hardy wasn't shy with the cash either. Pavis only really got it right once with Warnock so I'd say Jack Dunnett was the best picking Sirrel then Howard Wilkinson, who Sirrel recommended.
I think there's a balance to be struck, managers need time as well as a budget but the good ones tend to affect positive change pretty quickly, certainly after a close season.
Martin Allen was the worst sacking for me, he was clearly building something but was hamstrung by having contracted players sitting out their contracts but I believed he'd have taken us up the following season if we're stuck with him.

Pavis also got Allardyce in as well!

Well put. As Gumpy said, we look less like getting promotion each year we're down here. Each year we're down here, our standards get slightly lower. When's it going to stop?

Wrexham and Chesterfield might go up this season, but then other ex-league clubs like Southend and Oldham will eventually get their act together. We could be down here for good, unless we step up a gear.

It’s not I’m saying tilt the owners but more the conundrum the owners had in picking one as we didn’t pick out a stand out candidate.
