We do not know if this is man is suffering metal health issues or not. As Baggie Al says, his medical history will tell. Has he committed any crimes? Time will tell.

I agree it all sounds sordid, but, and here is the but. Let the process conclude and then you can deal with it. If he has done what they say, it’s awful. His career is finished and the process will decide whether any criminality has occurred. If it hasn’t, then it may be a matter between two people. As sick as that appears, in todays society that is where it ends. I’m not supporting him, I’m saying let the process finish before you set the village thugs on him.

For the record I don’t like it one bit. Just so people don’t try to twist what I say.
I completely get what you’re saying and I don’t actually disagree at all.

My main point is this though, he’s “depressed” because he’s been found out…….we’re talking self pity here along with a massive dollop of self preservation and the ridiculous hope that he can salvage his half a million £ a year career.

I won’t be at all surprised to see him reappear in a few months time with a documentary about mental health and an attempt at redemption by laying his soul bare to the public.

This fawning over media personalities does my head in, this isn’t the downfall of a great surgeon or social leader of great standing or someone who’s devoted their life to others……this is a bloke who reads an autocue for Christ’s sake.

It’s been made out to be like some massive national statesman has fallen from grace!

Do me a f e c kin favour, this man is a gnat bite on the a r s e of an elephant in relevance to anyone of true importance or value on a national basis.

I hope his career is toast.

I also hope his hard drive gets properly checked.

And once again, what about these young adults and the junior staff at the BBC who are now coming forward, where’s the apology and thought for them?

I might be an older middle aged white bloke who’s been dragged up in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s but there’s no way on this planet I would ever make comments to any women, let alone a 17-20 year old about her physical appearance as proved by messages now seen by the BBC.

A few years ago when I was in my early 50’s I was out having a meal with my best friend, he had a reputation as a ladies man.

He was the same sort of age as me and started flirting with the obviously 20 year old age range waitress.

I could see she was uncomfortable and I felt just the same so I made an excuse to go to the loo and out of his eyeline I apologised to her on his behalf.

I later told him that I felt he was making a fool of himself.

I no longer speak to him, a 25 year friendship came to an end.

I also found out that one of my employees had made inappropriate s e x u a l comments to a 40 odd year old lady driver for Royal Mail.

My employee was around 50 at the time.

She told one of my other staff what he’d said, he told her that he wanted to a h a g her and not to worry about him recently having been released from prison for committing r a p e……he laughed as he said it thinking he was cool and funny.

I later found out about it and later that afternoon when she called to pick up from us I personally went over to her and apologised and she was grateful that I had.

    Next morning he was sacked.

I know that I have a certain reputation on here but I am a straight down the middle person.

I don’t dodge issues or fudge situations like the BBC are doing.

Sod the fact he’s checked himself into some top clinic……the BBC need to get a grip, deal with this in his absence and suspend without pay and then fire him once he’s home.

I really doubt we’ll see this man’s face on tv again. I certainly hope not. I don’t think you need to hope his career is toast, I suspect it’s carbon dust.

I reckon his knighthood has gone too. 🙂

Is he guilty then? Have his employer scrutinised his medical records yet? At 61 - don’t think many would be bothered about returning to work when they are comfortable.

Anyone would think he had been engaging
in s ex acts with a girl under 16. Prime time news - people should get real when kids are being groomed, raped and murdered!

I think you have understood me completely. Guilty or not, I would suspect Huw Edwards would not want to return to work. As I understand it, the police are no longer investigating him at this time. It is now therefore, a matter between employer and employee.

The thing is, many men use escorts and, I’ll refer to them as ‘Ladies of the night, for their own pleasures. Most, I would suggest, are many years younger than the person requiring such services. So it happens in all walks of life to be fair.

You have said on a number occasions footballers have a responsibility for being role models to the young. I would suggest Mr Edwards was in the same category and he has perhaps failed to be such.

You’re going one way then the other on this one AL.

So you’ll be happy if your daughter starts getting unwelcome attention from a 61 year old bloke in a position of power when she’s 17 in a work environment?

No you won’t, you’re like me and you’d go straight to the top of his company and try to get him sacked.

There’s a video doing the rounds of Edwards preaching to youngsters from his BBC news chair telling them that truth and ethical behaviour is the basis on which good news is always built.

    Talk about a hypocrite.

Almost every time I see someone up in court in my local rag, whether it's for child grooming, drink driving, drugs possesion, rape, assault, shoplifting, fraud, abuse, carrying a knife etc. etc. etc., the "I've got mental health issues!" card is invariably played. Does this automatically eliminate ones ability to know what behaviour is right and what is wrong? Some of Huw Edward's younger colleagues are now claiming he's displayed lewd behaviour and been sending suggestive texts for some considerable time now, I think a lot more is due to come out about him. But hey, he had "mental health issues" so let's forgive him.

My point Mick is it should not be top of the news over murders and school girl gymnasts getting groomed and molested by their coach. Many who are in a marriage man and woman tolerate gays as everyone to their own - but many would switch this news over! Had it been a girl under 16 there would have been outrage and rightly so but hey that’s going on all the time with grooming gangs etc.

Flirting at work places happens all the time with all ages as long as it does not get offensive. I remember says to an 18/19 year old - nice top! Does not mean I was looking at her t its! The world has gone mad!

The BBC won’t even have his medical records yet and until they do - who knows his state of mind as no criminal act took place and the police are not taking this further.

A gym coach molesting girls under 16 does not even make the news but a celebrity asking an adult of consent to show his p rick does! No wonder Putin laughs at the West!

It’s newsworthy because he’s famous, in a position of high status and it’s just after the Schofield incident.

The hierarchy of what’s newsworthy isn’t the impact of something; it’s how interesting it is to the public. There will always be something bigger impact-wise but it doesn’t make it front page.

A countries laws should match its morals. The whole nation feels a 60 year old man in ***ual conduct with a 17 year old is wrong. Frankly, 16 and 17 year olds are still vulnerable and we really need a law change to represent modern values.
