That’s a relief. As things stand, he looks like having Macca’s big shoes to fill.

Completely new backline will take time to gel. We haven't strengthened elsewhere and appear to be relying on Jones being fit all season. Will be another failure by Montague if this is what we go with after the transfer deadline.
    Agreed.

People keep assuming our defence will be better it "should" be and there is this naive belief our forwards now are good enough.....we have lost a 70 in 90 man we will now see how ***** he was to us.

Ever the optimist, 3/4 more players bought in, MP back to full fitness early in season likewise Scott who can emerge from Maccas shadow and get 20 goals so if all that drops into place and with what we have already I'm going 3rd and automatic promotion

I think Macca has distorted our view of what strikers can be expected to achieve. Most seasons, only a handful of strikers reach the 20-goal mark across the whole division. Expecting Scott, who's unproven at this level and returning from a major injury, to bang in 20 seems unrealistic. 10-15 would be a decent return for Scott, Jatta, and any of our attacking players.

I think you have got spot on here slack. I remember how pleased we were when Wootton and Rodrigues were pushing towards 20 goals. Also Macca was incredibly robust and hardly missed a minute.

I'll come back to this thread once we have finished in the transfer market. Hoping for at the very least an experienced striker or a lower league goal machine.

So basically Didzy (vastly experienced striker) and Cedwyn (24 in 42 for Gateshead & 15 in 36 for us in the NL?) I think if we need any type of striker they need to be prime age and ready to go with some years in EFL (Will Evans etc)

If Ceds can stay fit then I'm hoping he can step into Maccas position as that's were he played for Gateshead. Yes Didzy has loads of experience but I can't see him being a 46 game player this season. Jatta looks handy though but we need more than 3 forwards. Morias needs to go out on loan.

I’ll go for 12th with the current squad. I think quality wise it’s probably better than last years but if we get injuries we’ll be in big trouble.
Echo the same as everyone else we need a minimum of 3 decent players come in and then who knows.
Have to admit it’s slightly disappointing we haven’t followed up on the flurry of signings we did and possibly got caught with Macca and Cameron going, hopefully this week we will see some additions.

Currently low mid table like we finished last year but if we have an injury or two, relegation dog fight. I'll however review my position if the squad depth issue is addressed. We've got rid of 12 players from an already thin squad last year and replaced them with 6 players. It looks like 2 more might be leaving also in Stone and Morias. We need a whole heap of new players for squad depth
