Rob Matthews in another 4-1 home win around that time.

Tony Agana in the 4-1 win against Spurs where we beat a team with Klinnsman, Nayim, Sheringham, Dumitrescu, Popescu etc.
Was the Spurs game in the cup?? Was that the game where Dumitrescu was sent off and Ardiles got the sack afterwards? If so I thought the score was 3-0 to us with Agana scoring twice or was it a different game?

Gave Tottenham the run around. On his day he was some player.
Another "on his day" one: Caskey away at Chelsea. He was up against players like Veron and looked like a star. So much talent. Just a shame he didn't have the mentality to apply it regularly.

Definitely 3-0. Agana and McSwegan with the goals if I remember correctly.

How could I forget Cherry’s heroics that famous day.unbelievable performance to secure the 1-0 win. Great suggestion.

I was also at the aforementioned game at Saltergate for Warnock’s first game with my father. Although I don’t remember Cherry’s performance that day whilst sat in Chesterfield’s main stand

Has to be that game, was a League cup game, don't think we won against Spurs in the league when Agana was playing. Remember a laughable Klinsmann dive in the penalty area that was waved away, well done ref!

    Agana scored one, McSwegan two.

The league fixture v Spurs, two years before that 3-0 win in the League Cup, was the low point of the one top flight Warnock season. He conceded relegation at the end of it, though it turned out we still had some fight in us and took it to the penultimate game, but that night we lost to two Gary Lineker goals in front of TV cameras for late night highlights and we were poor, though the officials didn't help. Agana didn't play in that game, he'd been such a disappointment he was allowed to go out to Leeds on loan and Frank Farina made his home debut, who proved to be a waste of space. If only Warnock had thrown in Devlin, Matthews and Michael Johnson three/four games earlier.

That would have been my first choice also.

Found a video of the goals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6Xv9kKdYXc

Just a call out for any match Steve Carter played in, what a player he was, a joy to watch. I would go home and try to replicate some of the tricks he had.

I had completely forgotten that we let Agana go to Leeds on loan - amazing to think he played for the team that went on to win the league that season. His stats at Notts are horrible, though - 15 goals in 145 league games, with two of those spent in what is now League 1 (where he still only managed 5 goals in 52 games). Ultimately, given his transfer fee of £685,000, he cost us £45,000 per league goal.
