Lepkowski reckons he?s on gardening leave at Leicester and on more money than we can offer so it?s off the cards. I think we?ll make an overseas appointment.

Sacked after 5 months on a 3 year contract in June 24. I would have thought he would have been on at least 2/3 million a year so unless Patel makes a deal with Leicester so he keeps this pay and we contribute the 3 million we received from Valencia etc - can?t see this happening.

Patel does need the best person in this role and not some cheap option. Wallace and Grady must be paid a million each so getting them off the pay roll could also contribute towards a decent managerial appointment.

Who would I want - well I would go with the Liverpool coach as he has player experience and being part of a top management team. On a purely selfish note - he could bring some great young talent on loan. Koumas for example would easily get in our team.

Cooper could be good but no way will he come to us when he?s still being paid a very handsome salary by Leicester.

Past managers OB - honestly love Mowbray as he did a fantastic job at Sunderland and manages on the front foot and gives youth a go. I don?t know the latest about his health though so this would be a question mark.

I did like Bilac too and thought he was unfairly sacked. He had balls but to be honest not up on the latest surrounding him now!

If I was in Patel?s position - I would pay the money for the right manager appointment and question where the 3 million is going if he does not. Asda are having a tough time because the brothers did not appoint a CEO as were too tight. The moral of the story is the 10 million package they are now offering is peanuts to the lost % footfall and strategic direction!

We do need someone in quickly due to this January window in my opinion.
Heitinga has now officially ruled himself out.

As for a returning manager I like Mowbray also, however, that is most unlikely given his recent health issues. I also recall there was a lot of unrest regarding tippy tippy football.

I was also a great fan of Bilic, who I believe is currently not with any club.

As Prando said in a later thread, John Eustace is now a front runner. Wouldn?t mind that tbh.

Eustace was certainly liked by Blues fans I know and should be within our budget but unsure of how much -if any-he would he of an improvement on Corberan.

The issue of attracting better or proven managers is, of course, financial-both in having the money to pay the salary a decent manager may demand and in being able to afford decent players to have at their disposal that might help attract them to the position.

As regards Al's reference to Asda, he is right that a big part of their failing is lack of a decent CEO with knowledge and experience of the industry and that analogy can be used for any business including football but the bottom line is that the two brothers have never had the money needed in the first place. They didn't have the prerequisite skills to run a supermarket business and they blagged things to get it on the cheap. Patel doesn't strike me as a blagger and I'm sure he and Nestor will want to appoint a manager with the necessary skills but the money he has to work with is limited.

As Al hints at, there is a world of difference between being a great caretaker manager or number two and the actual manager in charge with whom the buck stops. Another level of pressure as anyone on here who has moved up through management ranks I'm sure would agree. We need someone who already has experience of this. Be nice to think that there would be some up and coming younger manager available from a lower league perhaps or maybe from abroad who can bring a more front-footed approach and develop younger players but even if that were a possibility it would still be a risk at this level.

Yes, we need a new manager but, tbh, I'm more concerned at this moment in time of being able to shift some of our poor (but too often well paid) players and bring in better. A creative midfielder with a bit of pace being top of the list.
