Thread: Charlton Athletic Post Match Thoughts

A very strong performance yesterday. They couldn’t keep up with our movement. Wilks was outstanding. At times their number 4 looked like he had been run ragged. Agree of McWilliams - he’s a strange looking player but he’s effective. McDonald also looks like a real live wire - agree on strengthing in that side as he can’t be expected to play week in week out at that age. Another player Evans has clearly got a bond with. I am not going to write JCH off yet. I was surprised he didn’t get 20 mins yesterday to help him regain his confidence. I think SE missed a trick there - dropping him into a dominate side is going to do him more good than throwing him on if we are chasing the game.

Playoffs gone? I don’t think so. The next two matches will tell us more and the three recruits coming in may surprise one of two on here.

    Great performance.
Can't really single out anyone for MOTM as all put in a shift.
Nice to get one over on Nathan Jones and end a poor run of results against the Addicks in recent years.
Now to improve the away form and we might be able to start looking up at that table with confidence

You do realise number 17 is McWilliams. I know your trying to get a nibble so will leave it with you. Btw my only mistake on the first point was McWilliams played it to Powell to cross not james

That's what you get from playing mobile forwards. their movement and being able to play balls beyond defenders for fowards
to run onto gives the midfield options we haven't had all season. It's just a pity it took so long for the management team to
see it, if we all could why not them.
To a man they were all good today and Joe Powell was my MOM i have been a little disappointed in him until recently, he came
with a good name, now he is living upto it. He orchestrated a lot of the moves yesterday and some of the intricate little passing
between the players was a joy to watch and bamboozled their defence, which i may add has a good record this season i don't
know how as I thought they were very poor.
What I was pleased to see was the way the players celebrated the goals all together like a proper team who actually looked
pleased to be on the pitch together, we haven't seen much of that so far this season.
As others have said, strengthen the squad to cover injuries and form drops, get rid of the deadwood we have and we should be OK.
Why when ever we win do people say, the opposition were poor . Let's give our team some credit, we looked excellent, and made them look poor .. because they couldn't live with us.

    Ever since Cam went CDM
Ever since we stopped playing JCH.
    Hoofball has stopped.

Get rid of every striker in the summer even if its free to Dog & Duck

Note...Nombe is STILL not a striker.
2nd Note. Wilkes is still greedy af

A good team performance, I can't pick a man of the match, because it was a team effort.
Bramall dropped a goolie to let Charlton get into the game, but we came back to get a
    2 goal difference before half-time.
Wilks needs to realise a pass to another player is a better option, instead of going gung-ho
with a solo effort, some of the time.
Some good football played on the pitch yesterday, with Charlton Athletic lucky not to leave
the NYS with a bigger defeat.
On Charlton Athletic 2nd goal, it looked like Miller's keeper Phillip's did not even bother to
lift a arm to stop the goal, when I watched the game back on TV.

As good a performance as we've had from us all season. Not just the passing and moving element of it, but the desire from everyone was there for all to see. Late on in the game from a charlton corner cleared by our defence, they left Connor Coventry back, who we had here on loan from West Ham 2 seasons back, and who was odds on favourite to get to the ball first, but Green wanted it way more and forced himself in front of Coventry to get the ball back and get possession in a good area, and that was happening all over the pitch. Also a massive mention for Phillips, who has made himself the number 1 goalkeeper, he is starting to look very assured in claiming the ball, has made some really good saves lately, patrols the area well for balls over the top, and is now more regularly throwing the ball out wide instead of kicking up field all the time, and we get well down the pitch keeping possession.
It was very hard to pick a MOM, but for me it was Joe Powell, what an engine and what a left foot. UTM

NWC, a small bone of contention on JCH. Why would Evo have risked bringing JCH on at all with such a high tempo attacking game, he simply would not have fitted into it. If anything it would have been revert to lump and anything could have happened with 20 to go, they did end up scoring 2 and who's not to say JCH may have well upset our dominant rampant tempo?

He's on the bench because he's not applying himself as he should, his application at Chezzy on Tuesday night summed him up perfectly, if anything get him loaned out while the window is open! Plus, who would you have taken off in Green/Wilks to allow him on? Doesn't bare thinking about.

I'll go as far to say if Nombe is fit for Burton, he should also start on the bench and allow both Green/Wilks to start and flourish, they partnered very well yesterday so why even break that up at the mo?

Cracking game and result. Great to hear the atmosphere at NYS when watching the full match replay without commentary
    Everyone played well
Bramall looks a different player. Can't knock him too much for the goal. He's playing as a midfielder and was closer to the halfway line when he tried to turn his man and break down the wing. I want to see more of that from him and his teammates need to anticipate and cover for him. Good to see his confidence back. So much pace and energy up top. Green looks a million pound player. Wilks although not a natural striker has just has one thing on his mind, blast it towards goal. That's enough to frustrate but also put the fear of god into any defence. Powell is a proper good footballer, excellent recruitment. The two MC's are looking as good as what we lost in Ollie and Linds.
And Cam. What a pleasure it is to see him controlling the game.
Gone from having no midfield to one that looks like one of the strongest in the league thanks to mobile strikers, solid defenders and keeping the ball on the deck.
    Well done Evans I say
