I remember Billy Kirkwood being assigned by Wee Jum to do a marking job on Bryan Robson in both legs v Manchester United and was outstanding against the player Jum described as the most ‘complete player’ he’d ever seen. Mind you, never stopped the boo boys on the North Terracing giving him absolute pelters (alongside Davie Dodds) every week. Absolutely incredible stuff - nothing’s ever changed either.

Agree about Billy Kirkwood, the type of player managers love who competently do the job the manager sets them up to do which will largely go unseen by many fans. Davie Dodds on the other hand was the luckiest player alive. He played for United at a time the service he received from the likes of Bannon and Sturrock was something a lot of strikers would dream of. When he went to Zamax they saw him close up in training and couldn't believe he lacked some of the basic skills of a professional footballer. Jim knew how to deploy him in that great United team. The rest of his career was pretty mediocre.

A bit harsh on DD imho, it was off field (family) issues that led to the end of the Zamax contract, he had a good career and scored some important goals for us

Can?t believe I forgot about them! Jimmy is one of my all time favourite United players! He was similar to Jeando Fuchs but (considerably) better at everything than Jeando

Both things were true about his time in Switzerland. The quote about Dodds ball skills came from within the Swiss club.

Jonsson was a quality player, the foreign Dave Narey imo. Played centre-half and midfield just like the great man himself. He featured in a ten man shortlist for Iceland's greatest footballer of all time.

Jimmy Gomis & Prince were brilliant players as well. Picked up for pennies but both had the hunger and desire to do well on the platform offered to them by United.

I think it suited us with Aberdeen winning yesterday

Sheep and Hibs both within 3 points - all or nothing we go for third place

Means a draw next week is not too bad and can keep us in touch

St Mirren drawing not ideal but have to hope we beat them at home to settle that 🤞🏼

Need to battle for every point

    Come on United !!!
