We wasted a fantastic opportunity to go up in a weak division - the squad has been roundly asset stripped and the replacements (on the whole) have not been of the same quality.

Adding to that a sub-standard former manager and a largely rotten quality of football, we limped to the biggest damp-squib of a playoff campaign any of us have ever experienced. Nobody expected us to actually do the job, and, in the end, we got what we deserved. Nothing

Yesterday saw the departure of one of our top scorers (and fan of the club), whilst it is rumoured the other may also be on the way out. The squad has precious little quality and the silence from the club is deafening. Is it any wonder people are miffed?

This season will be key to our future prospects - consistent gates of 10,000+ will not be achieved with mid-table dross. Our *new* fans will not stick around forever unless they get value for money.

The owners have to decide - do they actually want to get promoted, or not? Words are simple, actions are not - they need to invest properly in the squad and new manager. Of course, I am obviously absolutely in favour of the owners investing in the clubs infrastructure, however it is ultimately a football club and what happens on the pitch needs to be priority 1. The fans deserve more than lip service.
The owners seem to agree too and the main person responsible paid the price with his job.

In the very, very, short term, yes, it feels like there is a bit of unrest or instability. But from what I can gather that is only amongst a certain substrata of fans who have lost a little bit of sight from how far we have come in six years both on and off the pitch.

I was as dismayed at our ultimate dismal attempt at promotion as the next fan, but we did post our best league finish in almost a decade in the process although, admittedly, in a wide open division there for the taking. The owners sowed that seed when they entrusted the job of taking us up to a man with no track record of being an EFL coach and even less track record of any success.

The squad was good enough, the infrastructure was good enough, gates were good enough, and morale was good enough. The glaringly obvious problem was the coach. Although clearly a decent man, his lack of experience and motivational expertise reflected on how the players took to the pitch week in and week out. Barring one or two players I think a lot of the players actually regressed during his tenure and for the first time since the owners took over there were rumours of disciplinary problems behind the scenes. This all reflects badly on the man in charge.

Returning to my original paragraph, I dont think anyone inside the club will be panicking. They took decisive action with Maynard at the end of the season having given himself enough time and rope to hang himself with, the last ten or so games were totally unacceptable. Personally I feel all will be well, I think they?’ll have learned from the Maynard era and this time in four weeks time we will be optimistic for the new season.

Six years is very, very, short term? Just how far have we come on the pitch in your opinion?

    A HUGE way.

The fact is that we have become what pretty much everyone, myself included, said they wanted. We are normal, or as close to it as has ever been the case since I started supporting the club. We do not have an annual financial crisis to talk about any more. We sell our good players when it makes financial sense, like every other lower league club does. We give our managers a reasonable go at it before moving on. Our owners just get on with doing stuff rather than arguing with people on here or on Twitter.

That means sometimes it can be a bit quiet and a bit dull. We have had two seasons I would describe that way under the Danes so far - the second one (partly down to Covid and the lack of crowds to be honest), and this one just gone. The others have all been pretty entertaining. Some kind of promotion push in five of six seasons is good going. Regularly selling players for fees is good. Everything keeps moving broadly in the right direction, but as a club we are so used to the wild highs and lows that it feels weird.

Agreed. although you could say there was some kind of promotion push every season as even in 2023/24 we were in the top 7 until February, although we faded badly.

In some ways we have been spoiled - sometimes I read comments on here and have to pinch myself to remind me that we finished in the play-offs and had our highest finish for many seasons.

Looking forward to who the HC will be and what players we will sign. Last season everyone knew we needed a new defence and we got one. No reason to think they cannot or will not do that this season attacking wise (including midfield).

As for asking whether the owners want to go up we only need to look at the reason they gave that Maynard went.

Its got to be better than fighting relegation every season .. At least we are making gradual progress..

Some sense! It astounds me to think of what some Notts fans actually want us to be.

The season finished two weeks ago. McGoldrick going is not ideal, but surely the ownership has shown enough to be allowed to be given some time to do their thing again.

    It is not Football Manager.
