Dundee United could be boosted by TWO major returns for Falkirk clash ? as Jim Goodwin offers Isaac Pappoe injury update
Ross Graham and Max Watters returned to training last week and are making fine progress.
Ross Graham and Max Watters are pushing for a return to the Dundee United squad for Saturday?s Premiership fixture against Falkirk.
Graham has been absent since suffering a hamstring tear during a pre-season friendly against PEC Zwolle in July. Given similar issues last season, the decision was made to refer him for surgery.
Watters also suffered a hamstring injury against Kilmarnock in August, bringing a superb start to his United career ? four goals in six outings ? to a shuddering halt.
However, both players trained with the first-team last week and, although too soon to consider a place in the starting line-up, boss Jim Goodwin will make a late decision regarding their availability for the bench against the Bairns.
?It?s a big week for Ross and Max,? said Goodwin. ?They?re back in with the boys ? so we?ll see how they are by the weekend.
?Given the length of time they have been out, it?s probably too early to be thinking about starts.
?But we have a game arranged for next week, so we?ll get them some good minutes in that and push them on.
?It will be so important to get them back available again. They have both worked so hard on the rehab side of things so we?re just glad there?s light at the end of the tunnel for them.?
Goodwin confirmed that Graham?s operation has been a success and that his skipper ? who missed several months of last season with hamstring issues ? is feeling pain free and moving freely.
?The operation was successful, Ross is feeling great and has no pain,? said the United gaffer.
?It?s just about his overall fitness now. He needs to get a run of being injury free, for himself and for us because he?s an important player for us. He?s club captain and someone we really believe can kick on.?
Meanwhile, Goodwin acknowledges that Isaac Pappoe?s layoff following surgery to repair knee ligament damage will be ?a long one?.
He is unable to put a timeframe on the player?s recovery but it is clear that the on-loan Ferencvaros man ? who suffered the devastating injury against Rapid Vienna in August ? faces a race against time to play again for United.
?Isaac?s surgery went well but he?s going to be long-term because there was a lot of damage to the knee. It?s going to be a long one for him, so we?ll give him all the support we can and take it week to week with him.
?He?s stayed in Scotland. His club were happy for us to do the rehab which was good.
?It?s been difficult for him, on a personal level, but he?s got good people around him.
?We?ll just have to be patient. It?s an open-ended one because all we can do with an injury like his is play it by ear. He?s a really good player, I think everyone saw that when he played, but he was just really unfortunate with the way it happened
