I'm not convinced yet that hamshaw is a bad coach/manager. Though he needs to learn quickly or he won't have his job...
Injury's have forced him into playing players out of position. Half of the injured players are back or close to coming back. So it's probably fair to judge his ability in May..
We all know in the modern game without a strong midfield you don't win games.
The 9 game run was because we had a strong midfield even though out back and front players were missing.
Now we have our front and back coming back to fitness bit our midfield has been weakened..
Our midfield 3 from Powell, Spence, gore, Benson, can compete with most league one teams. Stick yearwood or Kelly in there and we're weakened.
Already said all that poor recruitment apart from Gore who Evans signed rest tell me one that's adding much to the side now? apart from Baptist. Got to make best of what we've got till the January window.
Try T Holmes up front with Nombe. Baptist centre mid. Side at Blackpool:
Dawson
Rafferty Douglas Jules
Hall Gore Baptist Powell James
T Holmes Nombe
Mm...Lots more replies to a thread. Posters abusing each other, the manager and the players. The training ground coming into dispute again.
Must be on a losing streak.
What's coming through loud and clear is the disconnect between the club and fans , this is something I can identity with because it's the same at Oakwell , we've both lost our way on the pitch and so the disconnect grows .
The reason for the disconnect isn't necessarily the fault of Rotherham or Barnsley but more to do with the way the game is today and if you are of a certain age you remember what it once was , which isn't to say the game was perfect back in the day but in my opinion there was more connection between players and fans back then mainly because there wasn't a massive differential in what John Breckin earned and the fans stood on the Tivoli End .
Paul Stancliffe stayed at Rotherham for a number of season's as did Mick McCarthy at Oakwell and you saw these players grow from young lads , neither today would be around more than one season and so you never feel that same connection anymore .
It's hard to imagine that John Stones ever played for Barnsley at all , it's like it never happened and he's one of the best players we've ever produced and so when you factor in the hundreds of journeyman we've seen wear the colours of both clubs the disconnect never leaves us .
It gets diluted when we have a bit of success i guess , promotions to league one and so forth but even then it doesn't feel like 1980 / 81 either and so when you are having a poor time of it as we both are right now there's not a right lot to hang your hat on .
Both of our clubs it seems to me are desperate for some new energy , nobody seems to know how to get ourselves out of this rut , you used to hear alot of Tony Stewart in the media and now you don't so much and we had an owner who watched every single game , the current owner is foreign and almost never in the country .
The truth is there's nothing going on right now that you'd miss so much , just treading water and hoping something turns up is about the best of it , it turns out the best of it in any case would be promoted to the next level in a league we can't compete in which wasn't how I felt in 1981 and I guess neither did the Millers .
Guess with Benson we knew it would be 2 or 3 injury's per year. Possibly why he only got a 12 month contract.
not sure Spence. Or to an extent kaleta came here with known injury problems.
Looking at hamshaw signings
Some are a mystery, some are why bother whilst others are just unlucky
Cann. 3 reasons why you would bring him in.
he's as good as what we had.
He's better than what we have
Or cheap and always a number 2 (mystery)
Agbaird. Looks a good prospect from the showings. (Unlucky)
Baptiste. Good prospect. Will make a good championship player in time.
Holmes. 1 good game 3 stinkers. I can't pinpoint why. (Mystery)
J Holmes. 50 split on the fans. Some loved him. Others said he offers nothing. I was in the latter so (Mystery)
Benson. Hamshaw took a risk which so far hasn't worked out. Get him fit and playing and he's a top player. Sadly we can't do that. (Unlucky)
Gore. Glimpse of his ability last season so was a no brainer to sign him again. Not sure how hard it was to get his signing though credit to hamshaw for getting it. (Hammy's best signing)
Spence. Not massively impressed myself though several goals and motm awards other think he is impressive enough. (Unlucky)
Kaleta. Young. Pacy, and threatening going forward. Potential to be a good player if coached properly and kept fit. (Unlucky)
Hall. Being played in a wrong formation imo to make the most of him. He's a threat on the wing and knows how to score a goal. Good feet and has pace. Play Rafferty at RB and hall Infront of him would make him a real attacking asset. (Close 2nd to gore as best signing)
Kayode. What can you say about this one. Hamshaw worst signings in the summer. (Mystery )
Etete. Proved at Cardiff he scores goals when he plays. Sadly he only plays about 10% of the season. Hamshaw knew what he was getting before he arrived so big fail by hamshaw imo. (Mystery)
Sherif. Everything about this lad says he will score 1 in 3 when he's fit. Bad luck or known problems? Nothing suggests he had problems before arriving so has to be (unlucky)
Yearwood. Not worked out, is it lack of game time or just ability? Tbh he would probably make a good fullback. (Unlucky)
Martha. He must have had some stunning games when we scouted him or he's not adapted to the English game cos he has offered nothing. He's lazy out of possession and regular looses the ball to the opposition. (Mystery)
Evans got pelters last season and expected so unfortunately the same will happen to MH. He looks lost to me. Is he a manager ? Not sure but he seems full of poor excuses.
[QUOTE=Derbymiller;40783495]The decision for TS is about the January window, a good window could keep us up, but what is a good window for us? Do you trust Scott and Hamshaw with another window?
1, . MH indicated that Martha was wanted, so sell if we can make a bit on him
2. Keep Nombe with agreement to invoke extension but allow him to be sold in the summer
3. Send back sheriff, Holmes?s and teeter
4. Get rid of Kelly, J holmes
5. Compromise agreement with Hugill if possible, but at least try]
Should have said Etete however autocorrect decided that there is not footballer called that and thought teeter was a more accurate word, perhaps it thought teeter on the edge
