    ‘I, in my innocence, thought the Benn Law already had No Deal off the table.....’

    Me too, MA but there you have it...the right wingers disparagingly refer to it as the ‘surrender bill’ and Johnson does his best to ignore it even though - like you - I thought it had become law.

    My biggest problem with an election is that it’ll most likely simply result in another ‘hung Parliament’ but it also probably represents the last chance saloon for the likes of Corbyn, Johnson and Farage who surely can’t fail to win a seat for an eighth time and still expect to be taken seriously.

    I also thought GE’s were always held on a Thursday but given the 9-12th argument apparently not, so...given that they seem to be hell bent on holding an election around the darkest and possibly coldest time of the year wouldn’t it make sense to hold it on a Sunday giving people the maximum opportunity to vote?

    But surely as a remainder you want a cold and wet blustery day, as that will keep the elderly indoors, reducing the brexiteer vote?

    But, seriously, you don't want an election in the summer because of people being on holiday, you don't want in the winter because it's cold. Then there is the "tricky for students" argument. Is that how low in priority you think democracy is to people?

    If people want to vote, they will and giving them more time to do something that takes a minute to do because it's cold is frankly ludicrous, if not rather patronising.

    You consistently seek an affirmative vote on Brexit, and when it's offered, then you moan that it's cold and dark when it happens.....

    I’m not moaning at all Geoffrey.

    The only point I’m making is that short, dark, cold days are not conducive to a large turn out in probably the most important election we’ve had in recent memory.

    Maybe it’s a tad European to make Election Day a Sunday but I do believe that democracy owes it to the electorate to maximise the opportunity to vote and yes that includes students and those amongst the elderly who - maybe not so much in leafy Surrey - are not keen on venturing out after dark which, I think, is about 4.15 in mid December.

    Anything wrong with that?

    They all voted for Mr Fish finger when he stood against the then LibDem leader in Westmorland and Lonsdale at the 2017 election. Against all odds Farron won the seat but the fishes reduced his majority. His nanifesto included:

    I will work to provide a better education system for students. Free fishing rods for everyone";

    "No tax on chip shops and restaurants";

    And for the NHS, "more fish fingers on hospital menus, and free fish for NHS staff. Free training for nurses".

    He is fully codmmitted to Brexit

    Ah yes, the return of fish puns to the thread, and this time I have a new one.

    rA, I don't really mind what day the election takes plaice, in fact it can be any day barramundi, because that's pub quiz night. So I will leave it up to the raymainers to sort out (or is it roemainers?)
