    Carl Hoefkens
    Rafael Márquez
    Bruno Lage
All reasonably experienced better pressure football outside Scotland. Ferguson was put in out of entertainment purposes. I would like to see a Ferguson in charge of the Dons again and one who wouldn’t take no sh!t from anyone….he looks like he could fit the bill. Worked with a very good manager in his time and hopefully learned from it.
Márquez has played at the highest level and won numerous trophies but is just cutting his teeth in management as he is working with Barcelona youngsters (I bet he would easily find a few stars for us).
Adolf (Adi) Hutter would admittedly take a bit persuading but he is relatively unknown on these shores but a winner….he will get offers quickly for his services and his name had me in stitches when I was reading about him a few weeks back.

I look forward to your thoughts (i would put up Kjetil Knutsen but Cormack doesn’t have it in him to snap him up).
I don't think he will be sacked any time soon unless either of the following two scenarios play out

    1. We get 0 or 1 point from our next two home games plus we get stuffed by sevco in the semi
    2. We get knocked out by Darvel

Having said that I do think it is just a matter of time that his shortcomings cost Goodwin his job at some point in 2023. I agree with RJ that we need to seriously up our game in manager selection so should be actively doing due diligence on potential candidates now to avoid the knee-jerk appointment that Goodwin was. I maintain my view that there is not a single manager in Scotland that I would want to replace Goodwin.

RJ - my comments on your shortlist

Kohfeldt - a losing record wherever he has managed - no thanks, we need a winner as our next manager
Hutter - would have him in a hearbeat but given his four previous jobs have been at Champions League level clubs just not realistic he will come here
Ferguson - no, just no. Plus have tried the rookie manager route and it's a big no for me as a matter of principle. We want an experienced winner as our next manager
Hoefkens - interesting one here. Still a rookie but got Brugges out of a Champions League group of Porto/AthleticoMadrid/LeverKeusen. A yes from me but again fails on the realistic candidate point
Marquez - no more complete rookies, thanks
Lage - sacked by Benfica for poor results with stories about players being unhappy with training. Sacked by Wolves for poor results and reported tension in the dressing room. Plus salary reported to be £5Million pa at Wolves and it won't have been two and sixpense at Benfica either. Too many red flags for me.

RJ - I like your ambition and we certainly need to be looking outside Scotland but why don't you have a go at another shortlist that is a bit more realistic than your first attempt.

I too think Goodwin will be gone relatively soon too, but have very little clue who more than half the names on RJs list are, bar the boy who managed Wolves and was apparently a bit of a d ick by all accounts.
I myself have no clue as to who is worth a punt for our next manager, the only one in the SPL at the moment would be Martindale as he has done well at Livi, but just smacks of another JG style appointment and also Robinson at St Mirren is doing well too, but again would be another no from me.
No point sacking JG unless we have someone decent to replace him, but I do think a decent Director of Football would be a better signing at the moment.

Before the arrival of Goodwin I was suggesting the appointment of Dan Petrescu. Limited attention span - just over a year - but, in addition to a European flurry, he could make the Aberdeen manager position attractive again.

I don’t think JG is the man to bring us forward as a club, however, I do believe we should try and stick with him for the rest of the season.
The issue is that although we are fourth in the league we could well be outside of the top six tomorrow night and if we’ve lost five on the spin Davie C might get an itchy trigger finger.

If we do give him the bullet sooner rather than later I’d like to see Robson and Scott Anderson get a decent crack at it while we look a bit further afield this time for our next manager. Plucking managers from St Mirren or Motherwell etc doesn’t work in this day and age. Tomorrow is a big game for us and Goodwin in particular.

If rj is not careful the men in white coats will be coming to take him away

The managers he has listed aren’t even that great but even then there is no chance in hell they would even consider taking on the Aberdeen job.

To be fair I had the same attitude in the late 90s that we should be looking to take on the cheeks for the league, unfortunately Stewart Milne turned us into a diddy team with no aspirations of contending for the league so rj is about 25 years too late with this standards pish.

No one within Pittodrie has any ambition of Aberdeen competing with the cheeks for the league.Which is the reason why we will end up with another Scottish manager or some foreign manager who isn’t any better and they will not meet his standard.

I would actually be happy enough if we could actually win a cup more than once every 20 years these days, but it doesn’t seem to me that it’s a priority to do that at Aberdeen anymore,it’s all about trying to get into the group stages of Europe to make money.

If we put our honest hats on then we have to accept that we're not winning the league, even if Pep came up here we would struggle such is the gulf between ourselves and the cheeks. What we can't accept however is to roll over when we play them and allow them the 3 points before a ball is kicked.

What is a more realistic objective for the next 3-5 years is to establish ourselves, and by establish I mean by some distance, as 3rd each year with semi-finals/runners up/victors in the cup competitions. With the way the European competitions are then we could be looking at runs in the Europa group stages or at worst the Conference group stages. This gives us a larger income coupled with exposure to players/managers who only know of the bigot brothers. From this you can attract a better standard of player through wages and also the prospect of a move to a bigger club after ourselves.

I know this sounds obvious and it's what the club have made clear is their aims but you're not even going to get off the starting block when the man in charge (Goodwin) is obviously not up to that task. The manager is the most important cog and if that's buggered then the whole system breaks down.

If we lose or only pick up 1 point tomorrow then it really has to be time up for him, put Robson in for a few weeks until a new manager is sounded out and appointed which gives the new man a week or so to make a couple of signings before the window shuts. Worst case scenario it doesn't have an immediate impact and we start again in August with a new manager, the right manager, given plenty of time to assess the squad and make the desired changes during the Summer window.

A few weeks isn’t really long enough to sound out a new manager unless the board have someone in mind already. Goodwin is not the man but we should keep him in place for now and work should be done to find the right candidate….Mr Right not Mr Right Now.

I agree,RJ's list is pie in the sky stuff,no-one on that list is credible or they are way out our reach.
If JG gets punted then i just hope we dont appoint Robinson/Davidson.
We need someone from outside Scotland but not a Lee Johnson type either.
Cormack has a big decision to make and if he gets it wrong again then he's f@cked and could put us back another 3-5 years.
European qualification is a must this season

St Mirren must be laughing at us now , they’re level in points with us and have two games in hand over us AND we paid…..YES PAID them for their manager ! Good bit of business for them I reckon offloading Goodwin for some decent wedge . How much did we pay?

I was speaking to a few St Mirren fans before the game last Saturday. They weren’t laughing at the fact we took Jim Goodwin from them it was more to do with we still think we are a superior club to them.

They have a point considering they have won the same amount of trophies as we have this century.
