It won't be over £4m up front and it's probably not guaranteed to exceed £4m either. So quite why they're so keen to label it 'club record' and pile unnecessary pressure on him is beyond me. I suppose they're just taking a rare opportunity to show off.

Agree but they are determined to create a good news feel in view of the Court revelations about finances. Any other time and we wouldn't have mentioned it. Mind you it has rattled the Pigs on porktalk.

Pleased that we have signed a proper centre half with championship experience. Hopefully we can cut out the errors at the back now that cost us the play offs last season. For me along with the goalkeeper the most important signing of the season. Future captain.

We have paid over the odds but thats the market now. Flint went for £7 million to Boro so we are below the benchmark.

I presume the strategy is to use the Brooks down payment to finance down payments of our own in the expectation the Court matter will be resolved by the time we are expected to make the next installment in 12 months time.

The cost of the next one in will be interesting as it may give an indication of the budget spend. Just hope someones told the Prince and got him to agree to this otherwise Egan may have to go and sit on a platform in the railway station for a while.
