You mite also consider , Liverpool is now a thriving City , been given massive funding , City of Culture Award , and we have ? More than a cig papers difference ? Perhaps we don't moan enough or play the victim enough ? My last post on this subject now , no offence meant to anyone personally on our forum , probably best to let this topic close

We both fought back with everything we had and didn't back down an inch before we were overcome .

If I ever wanted a group of people behind me fighting for what they believed in the scousers would be high on my list .

I agree. I've worked in most parts of this country and you can see certain attitudes among people of different towns and cities. As ESR sez there's good and bad everywhere.

A little example here of something that I'm sure all of us Barnsley folk have encountered at sometime or other- Once I was working in Norwich doing a course for my work, there was other people on this course from various parts of the country. When it emerged I was from Barnsley some arseoil from derby piped up all smug saying "has gas and electricity reached our town yet?" which drew sniggers in the room. I mean you can take it as banter and laugh it off but I had the feeling he meant it in a patronizing way because of the way it was delivered and his body language.

It's generalisation at its worst. A portrayal of this towns battle during the miners strike was slurred in various ways by the government and press. "Enemy within" Folk actually believed this shyte.

The disappointing aspect of it all is that people without the necessary knowledge or broad mindedness believed it, rather like Hillsborough. It still exists both with Hillsborough and the miners strike. People paint a picture based on very little knowledge gained from various sources that seems to be the general consensus of opinion. Of course, i know it's not and there are folk out there that see things for what they are rather than what they're being told. I find it hard to handle at times.

I think it creates a sort of siege mentality. We have ours, it's an identity if you like, the Scousers have theirs. Fundamentally we are very similar as you say, both victims of the system and constantly downtrodden.

The suburban areas of Liverpool are far from city of culture status Roma. Hull has the same stupid tag too but it means absolutely feck all. Its ballax and a political way of saying things are on the up. Bransholme at back end o Hull is one of the most underprivileged areas in the country awash with crime and drugs. The city of culture tag has done absolutely nothing for the people of that estate. They've not benefited from it whatsoever. See it for what it is mate

Brandsholme? Inner city Liverpool? They are all Palaces compared to Huddersfield....... the only thriving place in the Town is the University. The town centre is a Sh1t Ole, and there’s Gun crime Night and day! Rapes weekly ( Men and Women)....Drugs are a fact of daily life I get asked where I am from and I say Yorkshire. I’m ashamed to live here.
One thing I’ll happily agree on Animal is that the Pride the Scousers have in their city IS very similar to Barnsley folks Pride in Town.

Animal is also right on one point here, the “Town centre development” does give a massive impression that Barnsley is on the up. That’s important to the economy, and future prospects....And if you look around the town there has been some real regeneration. This does give confidence to investors to come in and create more progression.
You lot don’t probably see the improvements as I do as a non resident.... but believe me, I’m envious of Barnsley for the way it’s changing and modernising, I walk round the town where I live and I see degeneration, desperation, and desecration of the town centre in massive proportions. No new buildings, Procrastination in Planning and traffic cameras on most streets to prevent people getting into town to spend... Different to what I see in Barnsley, with free weekend parking etc. I come for the football, I walk round and see the town changing, gives me pride, I don’t live there, I never have.
There’s no pride in the Town where I live, No identity, No fight, No respect for anyone, unless they are from a certain community.

    And a final point.
In West Yorkshire there are many Racist, Homophobic, Xenophobic, work shy, football Hooligans ( ask the poor lasses who had to barricade themselves into the snap counter on HTFC’S last visit to Oakwell)....

    I’d remind them...

    Clayton West!!!! .... I’ve Sh1t em

You could easily look at the new town centre development and college as a stranger and think to yourself that this is a town very much on the up .

You'd be pretty wide of the mark though wouldn't you mate .

I said suburban Liverpool Jules rather than inner city and referred to Bransholme because Hull was awarded city of culture a few year ago. Believe me, those places are not palaces compared to Huddersfield

The redevelopment of the Barnsley is a much needed and good thing. It would suggest the town is on the up and restores some pride.

Point taken Pass, however certain parts of suburban Huddersfield are no go areas, and are a lot worse than you can imagine. Hotbeds of criminality and poverty. I guess there’s that in most Towns and cities.
