Yes: English, not Scotch, Welsh or British.

There are rules regarding which national side players qualify to play for. All XI of the lads qualify to represent the England XI and, in that context, they are English players.

    Pedants rule OK!

Wrong again, didn't say I thought they weren't English, just that in some cases it suits people who moan about the negative impact of immigration to "forget" this in certain circumstances!

As for the rules regarding when a player qualifies to play for the national side in sport, its become a bit of a nonsense, ever since Zola Budd conveniently become British because South Africa were banned from sport, the rules have been amended and changed to enable the better players to be picked, ask Samoa about what they think of NZ poaching their Rugby players!

Jim Brudenell would turn over in his grave to think he had caused such a furore over nothing.

Sorry to outpedant you Andy, but I do not believe there are any Welsh players in the squad, either by birth, or by representative county, notwithstanding the official name of the England & Wales Cricket Board: which organisation itself drops the W in its initials of ECB.

If anything it should be "English and Yorkies" - with 4 of the latter by birth - if one believes the Yorkshire seperatist movement and their hopes for a devolved yorkshire parliament.

Presumably the second of those was the ‘overthrow’ boundary off Stokes’ bat. If you genuinely understood that you might be better than the umpires. Some, not New Zealanders but including Simon Taufel, are now arguing that should have been five, not six, because the ball was thrown in before the batsmen crossed.

    All irrelevant now...thank God!
