Let’s wait to hear your jovial Slavvy, once VAR sinks it’s teeth into your arses, when the pressure is on.
The pressure has been on him for weeks.

I’ve not heard him moan once.

Smith finds it impossible to praise his opponents and it seems you’re always “unlucky” even when you’ve been banjoed.

Smith does look like a drowning man,I don’t think he carries the weight of your club well at all.

I’ll bet if you did a poll of Villa fans who rated him he wouldn’t get 25% of the vote.

Admit it,you’d love to see him gone and a quality manager come in.

Brendan Rodgers for example.......he would seem to be a good fit for Villa.

Smith is a “water carrier” and very much on a par with when we had Darren Moore.

I deliberately tried to sidestep the discussion regarding his suitability for the post of Premier League manager, Mick. It is no secret on Villamad that whilst I wouldn’t want to see him sacked, I wouldn’t protest if he walked away. To me he comes across as an honourable, yet naive man.

We currently have a team of top third Championship, to bottom third Premiership players, with a management team to match. Should we desire to become a middle third Premiership team, then we require both better players and management team. That’s my stance, but I will not be part of any witch hunt (from within the Villa support) against DS.

I just don’t think that he is a moaner. Part of a manager’s job is to protect the Club, be that his players, or his staff. If he had told the truth about the players and said they’re sh1t, fkcnig useless, then there’s no way that we would have stayed up. Man management skills, and it worked.

Villa stayed up because VAR and the referee f***ed up in the Blades game. When those sort of things happen you almost know for sure that it will have considerable consequences.

As you will find out next season, VAR ensures that ‘considerable consequences’ happen every week. The Sheff U debacle happened in the 1st half of a game, 10 games from the end of the season. How far does one need to go back? We were lucky to stay up, we were rotten all season, but stayed up because of what happened over 38 games.

VAR is supposed to even out over the season. Over the season, had all the decisions been correct, the same 3 sides would still have gone down. Wolves would have finished 3rd!!!

Anyway, enjoy the build up to the new season folks. I enjoyed the anticipation and build up more than the actual season.

No doubt we'll cross paths once hostilities resume in September. Let the fun and games begin.

P.S. Dean Smith is still not a moaner.

If Smith thinks he did a good job and 140 million is peanuts for the Premier League then look to Sheffield United - fraction of the money spent - great football - almost European qualification. So in comparison between Smith and Wilder - should Wilder therefore be knighted?

The truth is - Smith and the Loon ( Terry ) did a crap job - poor investments - Arsenal completely rolled over due to their semi final win and West Ham had nothing to play for in the last match.

Please please don't sack Smith and the Loon! Only a rich fool would furnish Smith with another 100 million plus!

PS - I forgot - Smith is a Villa fan just like Greasy Jack who is a diving cheat and needs to grow up and was no better than Dom Cummings during lock down! At least Cummings didn't play bumper cards whilst pissed at Barnard Castle!

VAR is absolutely not supposed to even out over the season, it is supposed to give the correct decision every time. Of course, it’s only going to be as good as the individuals operating the system.

Sheff Utd under Wilder built a squad over a few years, a far greater likelihood of success. Smith took over in October last season and after guiding the team to promotion spent £140M under Suso's direction as we had let go of 12 or 13 players. It's completely different and a large chunk of the money went on Mings, Targett, & Wesley leaving around £75M for the rest which for that number of players is peanuts. We came up too soon and everyone knows that but Suso is now gone and Smith will have a bigger say on transfers.

As for cheats - Jay Rodriguez handball at your place to equalise, didn't see him asking for us to be given a goal or anyone on here saying he should have done. When at Southampton he threw himself to the ground at our place with no-one near him, ref gave a pen and they won 1-0. The game is littered with bad decisions and you're a hypocrite if you think it's always us who are jammy.

Arsenal rolled over? West Ham didn't try to win the game? Neither side did us any favours, we played very well against Arsenal then got the job done on Sunday.

IF and it's a big if, we can hold onto the likes of Luiz, Heaton, Konsa, Guillbert and McGinn with a few additions I think you'll see a better side next season - we'll see won't we.

The point that I am making is that VAR is supposed to eliminate clangers by the on field ref and I believe that it is the only occasion since the introduction of goal line technology that it has failed. It just happens that Villa were the beneficiaries of a bizarre situation, one that I doubt we will see again. There will, of course be other errors perpetrated by human operatives......

I think it's swings and roundabouts with players cheating WCV. I don't think any fans can call another side out for it as all clubs at some point are guilty of it. Rodriguez did blatantly commit handball just as one example but then on the other hand Grealish goes down at every opportunity as if he's been shot.

On the Smith / Terry matter. As you say, time will tell. I can't see the clubs hierarchy putting up with another season like you've just had. Smith (to me) does come across as a manager with a book full of excuses that were never his fault such as blaming the clubs poor form post lockdown on the break as if no one else had it. I think Smith is extremely lucky to get the Villa gig and Terry is there only based on his past reputation as a player.

I think Smith seems very slow to read the game and make tactical changes at the crucial times but I expect you have a different opinion. I guess whether you keep the decent players like Mings and McGinn much will depend on the bids that come in and how they feel about another season under the current management.

Be interesting to see what happens with Grealish with the price tag they'll ask given his off the field discipline lapses as I'd think that will exclude some clubs tbh. I think you'd be better selling him though before he becomes yet another disenchanted player despite the fortune the club will be paying him.
