It's very early days so. why doesn't Warne tell smith to play number 9 and not bloody move from that central position? Then we'll see if he's capable of scoring the goals we require.
We dont need to sell smudge we need to get someone similar to put pressure on him to perform. I wonder if this is why Warne has been after this Scottish lad. Smith is capable at this level without being prolific but if he knows no one can really replace him there is no pressure on him to put himself out. A big bustly lad who is good in the air up front is important to Warne and how he wants to play evidently. I see Hirst more as someone who can play off the big bustly cf and don't see him as being a target man as Smith AN Other might be.
We need a big bustly CF and a Creative midfield player and we will be cooking on gas. The defence has looked pretty sound so far although cover for Mattock would be good.

I grow bored of saying this so it will be the last time then you can all praise Smith as though he were a footballing God. Modern Championship defenders many of whom were until very recently playing Premiership football will eat the RUFC "Big Forrud" for breakfast. Be that Smith or another like for like it will end in one thing - relegation
Get out of this thinking that a 6" plus CF that "runs his blood to water" is the only way to play. Successful modern CF's of this ilk can be counted on one hand and are not within the financial grasp of RUFC.
Forget the target man and use the younger more skillful players we have, score some goals and reap the rewards of staying a championship club
Have we enough young skilfiul players to keep us up do you reckon Gaz? I aint so sure...
We have enough younger more skill full CF's on the books that do not/will not thrive on the "big CF" game plan. We have signed enough of what Warne refers to as wingers to provide ball into the box for these players to feed off. We have enough in midfield to play the ball through the opposition defense instead of watching it sail over their heads to the "big forrud"
In your own post you hinted we are one creative midfielder from a good side. Agree but not playing the Big Lad Up Front game plan.
