If they have anything like the season we’re expecting/hoping, both Rodrigues and Roberts will move on next summer even if we go up. But we’re in the strong position of having tied them down to contracts, so we can demand big fees that we can then use to reinvest in the squad.

This is something that Notts have been dismal at over the last decade. We’ve actually had quite a few good players that have gone on to higher levels, but always let their contracts run down so they walk on a free.
I get the idea about improving players and then selling them for a decent fee, but the problem comes when you want to invest the money you’ve received. It works well for a Championship club like Brentford. They’ve been hovering near to the Premier League for a few seasons now and have finally got there. They’re therefore in a good position to persuade good quality players, who they’ve carefully selected, to join them.

It’s going to be harder for a National League club. If Notts do sell Rodrigues and Roberts next summer, having missed out on promotion, we’ll have a stack of money available, but how do we persuade players who are better than those two to sign for us and play in the National League?

I guess part of the persuasion for young and gifted players is the fact they will start to see that talented players who join Notts move on to bigger and better things as we suspect will be the case with Roberts and Rodrigues.

Say Roberts and Roddy have a good season next season, but we fail to get promo and they both decide it's time to move on. What would you imagine they would be worth?

    150-250k

I think these stupid Brexit rules have massively scuppered the plans to sign players from abroad. It's such a shame really.

This is true, but it’s also worth remembering that Brentford didn’t start in the Championship. They’ve done this all the way through from mid-table in League Two.

More than that I would think. That’s the sort of fee that Tshimanga has gone for from a smaller club to another National League side.

250K is the sort of figure I had in mind, bearing in mind that clubs might well have a bit more surplus cash about at the end of next season. And that sort of figure would be worthwhile as it's prob about 20% ?, of our yearly wage bill.

We don't. Isn't the idea that we take players and develop them so that we can then sell them on? My understanding of that is that players we have now are improved and we have a replacement ready for R & R and so it continues. Obviously if we get promoted then the players have to be better.

It will be interesting how Brentford cope with life in the PL. Yes they beat Arsenal but that kind of thing often happens to a new team to the league, first game.

If we want to be playing in L1 or the champ in the next 5 to 10 years I genuinely believe we have the owners to do that. Football is going to be hit with more stringent salary caps over the next few years and the clubs able to recruit players with good potential but on a sensible wage and develop them are going to be ones coming out on top, we’ll that’s my opinion.
