I didn't see Torquay as contenders this season and after today's showing against Woking I'm worried for Wrexham now. We should have put them to the sword Saturday.
Wrexham 2 Notts 3. Ruben, Wootton and JOB to score for Notts. 410 Notts fans to enjoy a big away win.
Woking winning 4-0 at Torquay obviously doesn't make our home draw with them look great. However, I really think we have to remember it is very early days in the season. I don't think you can form any real conclusions about a squad until you're at least 10 games in. Even then, Torquay were running away with the league for most of last season, until they weren't.
Having said all of that, a win tonight at an obvious rival for promotion with their spending would be very welcome.
I see it as disappointing too, I'm sure the vast majority do but it's hardly disastrous there is a middle ground. I was just reporting fact, Torquay have 1 point from 9 possible, I bet their fans are seriously disappointed with their start to the season after nearly getting promoted last season.
If Swale and myself are leaders of a 'happy clappy cult'(?) then how would you describe yourself on here? Victor Meldrew's grumpier and more pessimistic brother perhaps?
Surely if you've had many more years of disappointment following Notts than me, then shouldn't you be more used to the disappointment by now?
Trust me I've had enough disappointment during all my years of supporting my beloved magpies. My sample size is comfortably big enough to know what to expect from Notts most seasons with the occasional surprise thrown in once a decade![]()
Victor Meldrew's brother is a cultural reference that sails above my head, I'm afraid. Maybe I will Google it. I am indeed accustomed to Notts' failure, I just don't try and convince everyone that everything at Notts is great, every day. It isn't. Or deliberately fail to see what failure actually looks like. Which we are all witnessing now. Still, enjoyed the game tonight. Good result. Choo Choo.
The Torquay result was disappointing because of the circumstances. Nothing to do with their other results - no point looking at that kind of thing, teams will get surprising wins/defeats all through the season.
Notts have had a solid start, nothing spectacular, but a decent one. Now got a run of fixtures where we have the chance to turn it into a very good one.
