Climate change isn’t going to happen in a single event.
As per usual - the western world will lead the way.
It’s only a matter of time for the rest of the world to fall into line.
China and India will be put under increasing pressure to conform as their economies relay greatly on the western world.
Russia will try to be as awkward as possible - and will become marginalised.
It is yes.
But there’s a conundrum about flying isn’t there ???
Climate change goes hand in hand with Extinction Rebellion - and during the pandemic the number of wildlife tourist flights drastically reduced - this has put pressure on communities in foreign countries to preserve their wildlife.
We need more people travelling to see wildlife - in doing so it makes it economically viable to protect that wildlife.
But of course we need to be doing it cleanly.
The race is on to produce none polluting air travel.
BTW - I’m not here to see the wildlife.
But when I have time I am walking the small city parks looking for birds.
Up to the 70s and 80s we had factory chimneys and millions o household coal fires that bellowed pollution into the skies. However, we had less cars on the road and less aeroplanes in the skies back then.
Now the vast majority of coal fires and factory chimneys have gone we now have roughly treble/quadruple the amount of vehicles on our roads compared to back then. When a worra lad in the late 80s/early 90s tha could laik football on thi street. Arta the 50 houses on my street ad say only 10 households edda car. Nowadays almost every household owns a car or a work vehicle. Some households own 2 motor vehicles. Tha couldn't laik football ont streets these days.
Industrial revolution wo start o it all. Tha looks at China nar, its a reflection on Great Britain 150 year agu. Ump**** power stations are being erected, plenty o coil being dug art and folk gerrin a pittance fo doing it. Same wi rag trade. A dunt expect it will change anytime soon over yonda.
Thanks for the responses, I was hesitant to ask, knowing the history of people on here….. and sacrifices they made to keep coal, and the communities in jobs ( and the time I posted)… I didn’t want to be insensitive.
I’d love to drive an electric car……. But the cost is Massive……
We use some environmentally friendly cleaning stuff, where possible ( ecover,Method….) after staying in a holiday place by the sea, that made us think a bit……. , and to be fair it’s good stuff….But when you look at the price balanced against the “Planet damaging” alternative, it’s easy to see why people choose to damage the planet….
A new heat pump will cost twice as much as a basic electric car?…… I like HOT water……
The Government are offering a pittance of a subsidy against the price of a heat pump! When questioned on the enormous cost, Bungling Boris said “It’s just a start, when companies start fitting them it will make better competition and the price will drop significantly” if the Government were 100% serious and wholeheartedly behind climate change they would give the companies money to make heat pumps and electric cars so that the cost was reasonable at the outset?
However the Government are saying that in something like 10 years all homes will have a heat pump fitted! Experts are saying no chance because fitting one is such a massive job it literally takes about 4 days of ripping your house apart! They also say electric cars will be everywhere in 20 years! Again not a chance until they become cheaper to buy.
It all smacks of what they tried to do with public transport to get everyone to not use their cars, they upgraded the trains and services (which are still crap) but private companies who run the trains also upgraded the price of tickets, so everyone still use their cars!
Yes that’s going fine thanks.
But as you have probably realised - this thread gave me the opportunity to link the claims by some people on here that I’m a racist.
If they knew anything about my life they would realise how ludicrous that claim is.
Plus of course it’s Bangladesh - one of the principal countries that is being devastated by climate change.
And another slight link - earlier today I was sat in the Nordic Club reading comments on here about Asbaghi being Iranian.
When I left I had to walk past the nearby Iranian Embassy - on the potential of having an Iranian head coach I had to say hello to the guards outside 😊
Bangladesh is the most polluted country in the world.
Extremely difficult for folk of our age to change our ways .
That sounds like a cop out and I suppose to a certain extent it is but we've become accustomed to living our lives the way we do and paying the prices we are happy enough to pay .
Guilt tripping through my grandkids is possibly the way I'll change my ways but even then I'm not so sure I'm going to convert to solar panels for my electric , buy a heat pump or run an electric car anytime soon .
By my own admission I don't or haven't taken this subject seriously at all and I've said I'm going to have to be led on the matter .
It doesn't appear the world's government's take it anymore serious either given the conference that's just ended .
