I know there must have been someone before but I can only remember Uncle Col. Good innings, good servant to the sport. Seemed that he and Murray Walker (F1) must have grown in similar environments and trusted by those inside and outside the sport and game. A unique quality and so many distinctive phrases and memories.

RIP Colin Slater MBE and Mr Notts County.

I'm sure it would make Uncle Colin smile to know that he is trending on Twitter this evening.

I don't mean to be a drama queen but I actually can't believe how sad this news has made me feel. It's as if a close friend has passed on. I can't even begin to count the hundreds, if not thousands, of hours spent listening to him from places home and abroad to keep up with Notts matches.

A unique, comforting voice. Listening to his commentary was like a time machine to past eras of the club. It’s taken me a long time to get used to match days without his gentle tones. His book should be a bible for future Notts fans to catch up with the club’s recent history from the perspective of a man who lived that history. A great loss. Rest in peace uncle Colin.

    Very sad news indeed.

Many memories (mostly happy!) of listening to CS' Notts reports on Radio Nottingham during the 1970s.

    Bon voyage Monsieur Nottsco.
