Here we go then.....Okay I'm a pro Pro footballer not just a MM contributor so I have a profession. I have a Wife and young Daughter and another child on the way. I need to keep up my mortgage payments whilst providing an income for my family. Weds offer me 12k a week when I was only on approx 4-5k at my last club.....now let me think about this one....mmmmm......
It's a 2 year deal so worth £1.248 Million to me. My last two years at my old club paid me, (at £5k), £520,000.....''Taxi..Taxi"
We all know footballers have a very small working shelf life unless you are an elite player earning mega mind blowing bucks so you take the best what's on offer, within reasonable boundaries, travel etc.

I think the only way the Chairman could have tempted Smith to stay is through length of contract, say 4 years, at a competitive annual salary. When you factor in that he never seems to get injured and has a very good attitude it would be a risk the club might be able to take even if there is a dip in form along the way.He may also have offered a couple of 'trigger clauses' as well to benefit Smith should someone come along with an exceptional offer but Smith will have to follow the money in my opinion. He is 31 soon and looking at his CV you don't need to be Alan Sugar to work out that he will not have earned a 'set up for life' income from his career so far.By the time his next contract expires ,at which ever club,so will his career.
I would hope to be smart enough to have investments of some sort and savings but desperate times make you do desperate things
I wouldn’t begrudge Smith for moving on but I’d be disappointed but we have to get over these things and hope someone can do the same job or even better
re. length of contract. Players over 30 I'd say max' we can give them is 2 years with the option of an extra year.
