Our player-manager centre-half was out injured and badly missed, especially at the numerous corners, the lad who came on in front of us at Stan, a winger playing right-back, who I said is never a full back in this world, he's just called it a day after a re-currence of a serious injury at Rammy, so the depleted squad is even more depleted and Marske rock up on Saturday. Ah well, you never know.

Happy days at Ashington, some serious money being made now, do you no harm as you look like going up this season. Was it the black lad playing just in front of the back four who scored the 30 yarder, can't remember if you said he was ex-Newcastle or not. Will Ken be going down to Kings Lynn ? No more questions.
That is a shame when you have been doing well because players are never easy to replace during the season. Very hard game for you on Saturday although they lost at Shields in the FA Cup last weekend 2-5, this could be a spur for them this week. Good luck, I shall be looking out for your score ---as will Ken!
It was the lad you thought, Yannick Aziakonou, who scored the screamer. He was brilliant down at Stocksbrige in the first game, his workrate was fantastic and he broke up so many opposition moves but he was even better on Tuesday night and that goal after just 4 minutes really set us on our way.
Ken is suffering with man 'flu at the moment and hasn't been to a game for almost 2 weeks although he is hoping to be at Ashington this weekeend. He has not committed to Kings Lynn yet because he does enjoy travelling with me and we have some great craic. The supporters bus will definitely be rowdy and you could be unlucky and have to get on the drummer's bus ----he then bloody keeps hitting it periodically and gets egged on by his mates! Not for me or Ken, I can assure you! I will be happy if he makes this weekend!

Just a footnote. If any of you ever go to Stocksbridge I will heartily recommend Crawshaw's steak pie, mushy peas and gravy ---the meat is plentiful and really good ----I had two! Good luck this weekend.

I shall try one if ever I get the chance Sub. On the same subject, if you ever go to Radcliffe don't expect a decent pie, in fact don't expect a pie at all, there aren't any, they don't sell them, it's a pie free zone. Burgers, hot dogs, chips and gravy, that's the menu. FFS

I shall avoid Radcliffe like the plague! No pies at footy, what is the world coming to?

So sad to see that Clitheroe have gone out of the FA Vase after losing a penalty shoot out at the end of a 2-2 draw against Marske today.
Ashington won a hard fought game against Tow Law with their skipper Ben Harmison scoring a penalty midway through the second half to make it 2-1.
The Clarets winning at Coventry was good to see and the Geordies are very happy up here.

Another sorry tale Sub, one of our midfield players who had been dropped to the bench a couple of times recently, got into a strop about it and has departed, our left back has gone on holiday, our player manager is still out injured and we were so short we had to give our U21 centre-half his debut. We're not just down to the bare bones, we hardly have any bones at all now. Nevertheless, we managed to lose another game we should have won. our big No 9 was clean through, rounded the keeper and then somehow failed to put it into the empty net, we hit the post with a 20 yarder and then finally scored, 1-0 but it could have 3-0. Marske equalised and then got a pen when the ball bounced up and hit a defenders arm, nothing he could do to get his arm out of the way, but that's football these days innit. We got a late equaliser and took it to pens, of which I have no complaints at all. The Marske lads had clearly read the Alan Shearer How to Take Pens Instruction Manual and smacked them hard into the roof of the net, while our lads must have been watching England videos. So Marske deservedly went through.

It's frustrating because unexpectedly we were better than Bury and at least as good as Marske, but contrived to lose them both. Bootle away in the League Tuesday, anyone with a serviceable pair of boots is invited to turn up, KO 7.45.

Blimey, that's not good to read about players not accepting being dropped and not fighting for their place. Nobody likes being dropped, however, it is then up to the manager to have a chat and explain the shortcomings, I wonder whether or not that has happened ---we never know.
We had two players away on holiday at Ashington today and those of us who are old school agreed that it would never happen in our time because we would have been dropped and have to try to fight our way back into teams, in fact, if you missed training without good reason you could expect to be droppped!
Ah well, concentrate on improving your league position and maybe getting one or two players in to aid the cause.

We should have been playing Heaton Stannington on Wednesday, however, they have agreed to call it off, with the blessing of the Northern League, in order to help Ashington's preparation for their biggest game in 60 years!
    Good luck on Tuesdayat Bootle.

It's his second time here Sub, it's not totally unexpected with this lad, just the way he is. He never seems to last too long at any one club, but he is a decent player at this level, so he can always find another club who'll take him on. That's a brilliant gesture by Stan, so good to hear of clubs helping others out. Can you imagine it happening in the PL ?

Incidentally, when we were at Stan we were short on players, just 2 subs and a keeper on the bench, 4 of those 12 outfield players that night are now unavailable for one reason or another. That's how bad it's got.

Now, now Sub, is this a deliberate mistake ? You know very well we play in the FA Trophy which is for the big boys of Non-League.

I have no doubt your lads will be playing in it next year.

Not deliberate. sinkov. just owd age ssetting in after a taxing day! I would like to think that we may be in the Trophy next season, however, we shall have to wait and see. I hope that you manage to get your lads back fit or some new players come in. Good luck.

I can only think Sub that we haven't brought players in so far because we were only playing cup matches, and they'd probably have been cup tied. Now it's just League matches I would imagine there'll be 3/4 coming in over the next couple of weeks. If there's not we can forget about promotion.

    Off the club Twitter feed,

"Marske were very gracious visitors and were an absolute pleasure to host. Inevitably the changing rooms were spotless. We always get on well with the North East teams. Best of luck in the next round lads."
