I think Broad just needs to settle down with his rants and try to keep his wicket for as long as possible,as long as Stokes is there still a chance to win but Broad just needs to hang on and score some runs aswell
Stoked does need to let Broad take some of the brunt when runs are on offer
THESE are the moments when it is tight for Stokes to attack, it’s all about having the nous to know when to take the attack to the opposing side.
The Aussies will probably still win as we need 93 as I write this but if they do lose it will be in large part due to Carey’s run out firing up Stokes and Broad.
I do believe that had Bairstow run out Carey in the same way that Stokes would’ve called him back to bat and reversed the appeal.
I’ve mentioned before on here that I was once manager of a Sunday morning team and we played a very good side from 3 or 4 divisions above us in our league FA Cup of sorts semi final.
We scored a late equaliser in extra time which was a blatant handball by my player.
It sat very badly with me and I instructed our penalty takers to pass their penalties back to the opposing keeper and we lost 3-0 in the shoot out.
20 odd years later I’m still glad we did that.
What upsetting members in the long room at lunch?.....![]()
It’s like watching Albion……it’s the hope that kills you!
I believe that I’m massively in debit when it comes to my sporting teams in my lifetime, I reckon I must be at least 40%/60% in deficit, probably more.
I hate sport on days like today.
I managed to somehow cut myself emotionally adrift from this test after the first days debacle, which helped. But then England decided they would put us through the wringer again on the last day. I'll sit and mope for a couple of hours and then I'll probably forget all about it.... until the next one!
Believing the ball to be dead, Bairstow wandered out of his ground as wicketkeeper Alex Carey under-armed the ball at the stumps. Australia celebrated and Bairstow was given out by TV umpire Marais Erasmus.
As the furious Bairstow departed, Lord's showered Australia with boos that would last for the rest of the day - some players were confronted by spectators in the Long Room, for which the Marylebone Cricket Club issued an apology.
It’s Bairstow’s fault, he knows the rules BUT……it’s what the Aussies would normally describe as “really ordinary behaviour” which is their laid back way of describing a cheap shot or something really not very becoming.
It’s just very poor form.
If a batsman overbalances playing a shot and short leg or silly mid off runs him out that’s absolutely fine, if he’d set off to sneak a quick single and Carey had done the same as he did today……all power to him.
In this instance though it’s out of order to uphold your “howzat” appeal.
They need to change the rule on this, it’s very obvious when a keeper is standing back and he takes the ball if the batsman is just doing a bit of “gardening” or off for a chat with his teammate.
“VERY ordinary behaviour” today……if Shane was still alive he’d have called them out on this.
