That didn't seem to be a problem for Ferguson at MAN U, Klopp at Liverpool or Wenger at Arsenal or indeed Mourinho, but obviously one needs the personality and tactical skills to carry it off, winning a few things as a manager helps.
Many of todays great managers were no stars as players, and given Lampard, Rooney and Gerard have not exactly pulled up trees, the opposite might be true, though I've not looked at the stats.

I would think it unlikely that Mowbray will return, and even Brums clueless owners will be unlikely to attract a "big" nae in league 1. Hope they stay there for 3 or 4 seasons!
