They should be taught a lot that they're not. I doubt there would be many people happy if they were taught the truth about finance, because it'd crush a lot of companies who prey on the ill-informed, but they should certainly be taught (or taught better) about general maintenance skills, cooking, budgeting, etc. National service isn't required for any of this though - that's where Sunak is pushing the attention because having failed to make any educational improvements in 14 years, it's better to shift the focus to something more divisive.

People change jobs (a lot) more. Jobs are more dynamic than years gone by. Again though, a suitably educated school-leaver should have more than enough, and it points to education getting it wrong rather than a need to throw in anything else.

That is something we can agree on.

Peeps need to read what it says on the tin - in 6pt Times Roman smudged italic.

The Tories will set up a royal commission to suggest how such a plan might be implemented. This is shorthand for "no chance".

Because they're not going to win.

But even if they did, it's only for 30,000 people.

So what would happen with the young adults that want to go to University or another form of Higher Education HE
Put on hold for a year?
This would mean that the Universities and Colleges would have hardly any intake for the year that it was introduced
Or if some choose HE they are exempt from these proposals

I think they will still be able to cope with their studies and some local volunteering 1 weekend per month

"Community volunteering: The vast majority of ****agers would take this pathway.

It would require them to spend one weekend a month volunteering, for one year - 25 days in total.

The voluntary placements would be in the local community, with organisations such as the police, the fire service, the NHS, or charities that work with older isolated people."

This is not national conscription. If they want to, they can apply to join the armed forces for a year.

"Military training: 30,000 ****agers would be able to take up places to spend a year full-time in the armed forces.
Young adults would need to apply for the programme and tests would be used to select the best candidates."

    Brilliant idea.

I've got an idea. Why don't we start this with everyone of a working age, who claim benefits? Call it 'giving something back'.

    Let's see how that goes.

I bet that overstretched emergency workers and charities are just thrilled to bits at the prospect of having to entertain a load of ****agers who don't want to be there.

Or is the theory that they are actually going to be able to do something useful as opposed to simply getting under the feet of people who are trying to do difficult jobs? How would that work at a rate of one weekend a month?

This ‘policy’ truly is prime bolox. I don’t know who I feel more embarrassed for, the Tories and their pet media outlets that have to push it, or the people who think it’s a good idea without taking the ten seconds or so of thought that is necessary to work out that it really isn’t.

A quote from John Cleese this morning…

    Rishi Sunak is getting desperate.

Do you think he will re-introduce Rationing ?
