Frog, with all the rule changes, as an ex official I’d need to sit down and read the rule book again!

Why it wasn’t a straight red denying on obvious attempt on goal, I don’t know. It was a very soft penalty for me and the ball was moving forward and away from the attacker so I suppose a yellow instead.

As for the retake, the penalty was taken, the ball was saved and pushed back into open play so, the new rule is the game carries on. The Croatian players x 3 who all encroached and formed the line, the ball was played across for the goal to be scored and made it an offside position by the player passing the ball across the goal area, hence an offside decision given.

That’s my understanding of that as I saw it. I’ll have to watch it again.

As for Croatia, they should have scored two goals in the first half to still be in the game before half time. That’s the difference if you don’t take your chances.
