I don't think it's a case of Dan refusing to sign a new contract, more what DC and his agent are asking for compared to what we can offer
Other clubs are likely to be making overtures with offers that are difficult for the player to ignore
None of us want to lose Dan but it's a difficult conundrum

I get that he's hot property, but if teams like Mansfield can swoop in and offer our best players something we can't, that's a worrying sign. I don't mind losing players to teams that are clearly of a different calibre to us, but I doubt that will be the case with Crowley. If he goes, it'll be to an average L1 side.

    That?s rubbish!

Yes, he might leave in January, but that does not mean that he thinks he?s too good for us. It could be because we get a good offer, or because he gets a good offer.

Why did Macca and Ruben leave? Because they thought they were too good for us? Of course not.

Mansfield can offer him a top 10 league place and (virtually) guaranteed L1 next season.

    That’s a start.

True, but midtable L1 is about Mansfield's ceiling I'd imagine. Not sure how much potential there is for progression beyond where they are now. Why not stay at Notts and aim to get promoted instead? He's already played in L1 and the Championship, and he chose to drop down to L2 to join us, so it's not like he's desperate to challenge himself at a higher level like Macca was.

I agree, but the question was what can Mansfield offer that we can?t.

I think he?d be daft to go there.

I heard he just loves the town of Mansfield with it's wonderful architecture and culture. You can't compete with that.

He'll know more about the potential for that to happen than anyone here but I think if he was to weigh up a 50% of us getting promoted against Mansfield already there which way would he jump? (all conjecture of course, probably just us blowing smoke out of our backsides again? (Idle hands and fretful minds and all that).

It's not just L1. One or two L2 sides have significant financial backing and ambition
Players are not fans, it's their job
Few of us would be any different in their position
