Tony will need to make some impressive signings if he wants to sell many season tickets.!
McDonald Phillips and Green departures are understandable. Hull`s is a pity.I expect Matty thinks Kayode and Holmes can be improved by coaching. Good luck with that.

The Kayode decision is a disgrace. The stats may be wrong but it looks like he has played less than 50 professional matches in the last 5 years and about 10 in the last 3 years. In that last spell of 3 years he hasn't scored a goal - taken from Wiki so need validation.

The kid is injury prone and has failed to demonstrate he has any capability to be a professional footballer at league one level. He is also 25 so very unlikely to improve. I dont care if he is on ?50 a week - whatever it is, its wasted money.

Holmes, slightly different in that he isnt injury prone but hasnt demonstrated any real ability in the few opportunities he has had.

These are poor decisions and they reflect badly on TS and MH. As I feared, MH is another puppet who TS has selected on the cheap and because he will do as he is told. "One of our own" my arse!

If it's a maybe it's a no. We're talking about another season at least in Kayode his case wages. Shouldn't let your heart rule your head. All last season we didn't have a wide right player Holmes wasn't one.

You'd probably come up with the same answer to your question for JCH, Hugill and Dawson. That's a much bigger worry.

Look after the pennies & the pounds will look after themselves! Whatever wages we're going to waste on 2 players that won't start games could be the difference in getting the main targets rather than next one or two down!

The retained list proves everything I said about calls for a mass clear out the other week. There can't be one. The JJ decision is really baffling to be honest and can only send a clear hint that things are going to be done on the cheap by trying to morph him during the summer into a serious League 1 striker. Triggering the 1 year extension on Holme's contract may seem innocent given he is likely to be on low money but he is also likely to take up a squad place. Anyway,as others have said, the main problems are the big earners with another year left.Moving some of those on may prove to be a rather large headache.

Some strong words there and you are not the only one, so a little bit of balance is required.

What has killed us in the last few years is the lack of depth in the squad and the lack of home grown players who do not count towards the squad size.

Every other club has a bigger squad than we do. So I would not read too much into these decisions none of the players retained or offered contracts other than Haks or Cam are going to be on big money but they are useful in giving us the home grown player depth we have been lacking.

Hammy is not daft and these look like shrewd decisions in building a squad with depth.

The most important decisions are those that go alongside the retained list. What are we going to do with JCH and Hugill. I can see JCH wanting to go to Bristol Rovers, I have mates who are Rovers fans and given his performance there in 19/20 they would take him in a heart beat. Darrel Clarke has just gone in there, he plays with a big lump, needs a marquee signing to get the fans onside, there's a deal to be done there.

Hugill also has admirers, Bradford Port Vale and Donny so maybe we can move him on. If we can do then game on, only problem is that Nombe has admirers too, Charlton like him, if they go up an offer might come and I can see him wanting a move to London.

We then move onto Cam and Haks, I can see Haks staying, not sure about Cam, big decisions there that impact the team.

What am I saying, the retained list is a side show to what Hammy needs to do, let's judge him and TS on the important business to come.

I admire your rose tinted glasses. Regarding Hughill and JCH. It’s wages that’s the problem. None of the sides mentioned will match their current salaries so very unlikely that they will move on. Cam has gone - I’ve heard Luton are in for him and will offer miles more that we can and also will be up there with the favourites. Oddoffin was being monitored by Wednesday but that may be gone now DR looks like he has moved on. In any case, he wants championship football and he won’t be here come August.

The points about homegrown talent is true but JJ is not a future hope or indeed a reliable squad member. He is brittle and can’t string more that one or two appearances together. Besides that, he is garbage and nowhere near div one level. I’m not sure he is even football league standard and the stats support that. Holmes - well he looks like a fish out of water. This is professional football, albeit not a great level but never the less he hasn’t got the game to play at this level. So, all this points towards a very very negative situation. I’ll give TS the benefit of the doubt because he might back MH but so far, so not good.

The league next year will not have a runaway Birmingham but it will be competitive. As it stands, I am worried. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Donny, hudds, Bradford, Barnsley and Chesterfield (if they make it) all have bigger budgets that us. It could be a tough battle with a novice at the helm.

Thanks for the reply, I will disagree with you on JJ I think he will come good, Homes is the one I am more surprised at, I see a lot of lower league football there are many out there who look good but lack the confidence and game know how to step up, I put Homes in that category, let's hope he proves me wrong.

The one I really like is McGuckin I was appalled by the treatment he received from Evans, recalled from a loan when flying put into the team away at Barnsley hauled off and scapegoated at half time and subsequently told he was not wanted. No wonder his confidence was low when he went back to Yeovil. I think Hamshaw is just what he needs.

Finally you may be right about Haks and Cam, personally think there is no chance of Cam staying, I am a little more hopeful with Haks but expect there will be a better offer for him, a lot depends on who the new Huddersfield gaffer his, however who in there right mind would go and work for that owner?

Fair do. Just can’t seen JJ coming good but I hope he does too. If Cam does stay then I hope that MH is planning on playing him in midfield and not at the back. He’s not got the physicality for a division one centre half or the aerial power. Similarly, if Haks stays then I hope it’s got the back line and not midfield.

I just think we need to secure an athletic midfielder who can bring the team together and take a game by the scruff of the neck. No one in the middle - Powell, Kelly or anyone else can control a game. MH needs a 28/29 year old who knows the league and can captain the side. Wrexham and Stockport solved that problem with James and Norwood. I think SE wanted Kelly to be that man but he’s not mobile enough.

Think some are forgetting. The pot is only so big. It has a limit.
We were short on bodies last season and for MH to go out and buy/loan /get 14 plus new players to make up a squad Inc the 11 we already have would be expensive and not practical. Keep a few of the players who can do a job (cheap wages) as fill ins, then spend the cash on 9 or 10 decent players.

Btw I'm not convinced there isn't more going out/selling.
