Surprised at that, I thought he had expressed a desire to end his playing days with us and that was why he left Derby.

I would imagine he came here after being told how we wanted promotion this season.. It turns out he had been conned, and having to cover various roles in the side, because of the lack of quality.

I hadn't heard that but I believe Didzy was our highest paid player
Maybe any new offer isn't at the same level as the deal that's just about to expire?
    That would make sense
Not sure what I'd do if I was running the club
Really hard one to decide as he was one of the best players in L2 last season despite also being one of the oldest

Not taking into account whose contracts are up, because I really don't know, there was an earlier thread suggesting only a few. Also trying to include everyone still on the books as I believe some have been missed.

Maynard - I'm ambivalent, really want to support him and feel he's had a few issues with injuries, coaches leaving etc but with significant numbers seemingly wanting him out and the real lack of an inspiring end to the season it may be time to let him go. However - those dreaming of the big stellar appointment - dream on, it will almost certainly be another up and coming coach with potential.

    Bass - yes
Slocombe - no but wouldn't be averse to a coaching role and maybe as an emergency 3rd choice.
Miller - not seen him so no clue, also from his experience I expect he wants more than a back up to a league 2 keeper.

Macari - a bit hit and miss but I'd say yes
McDonald - yes - solid squad option
Ness - from what I've seen, yes - but definitely worried he has continuing injury issues
Bedeau - yes, possibly as skipper
    Platt - yes
    Cameron - no
Chicksen - no but he deserves all our support while he recovers from the terrible injury
    Cundy - no
Zak Johnson - what happened to him? Anyway no and his loan expires anyway

Gordon - no (unless deployed in a different role / system)
Tsaroulla - no - seems to have potential but no end product. May work in a different system?

    Palmer - yes
Hinchy - yes, for me he's improving and hopefully will continue to
    Austin - yes
Edwards - would have been a yes before his injury, now a no, we need better
Grant - probably not but he has something and maybe room to improve
Whitaker - yes as he has room to improve also and definitely has talent
Robertson - not really sold on him, aggressive yes but very wasteful - no for me
    Jarvis - yes
    Jones - yes
Abbott - sorry to see him go but he has big things ahead and anyone thinking we may be able to sign him again for next year are dreaming

    McGoldrick - yes
    Jatta - yes
Morias - no, need to free up a squad place
Traore - not seen enough but I hope there's potential to improve but definitely not the answer at the moment.

Of the youngsters close to 1st team involvement only Ryley Reynolds would get the nod from me, of those I know. Sanderson seems to have disappeared so no and Cisse is a bit too lightweight.

The yesses would make the basis for a decent squad and if we can get 4 key signings right like last year (Bass, Platt, Bedeau, Abbott) in midfield, wing back and striker roles then we could end up with a very strong squad.

Looking through this it seems overall people think the following are definite 1st teamers

    Bass
    Bedeau
    Platt
    Palmer (maybe)
    Jatta
    JJ
    Jarvis
    Didzy

JJ seasons been a right off either injured or recovering from injury, Jarvis came with no competitive football this season. Palmer came back after a really bad injury and Didzys been in and out.

Then we think we should have got autos, how does it add up when you think about it that way?

Would he strictly be a bit part player? McGoldrick has never relied on his pace; his game is about his raw ability and his intelligence.

He wont lose that over the summer.

That was my thought. Didzy would still be a key player and probably would for several years based on the current squad.
Didz should be bit part in respect that he shouldn?t be playing for 90 minutes week in, week out. He should be subbed 60-70 minutes in with Notts 2/3 to the good? clearly this is the ideal.

Yeah, this was what I was getting at. We can't rely on a 378-year-old to play 90 minutes week in, week out. He'd need to be managed better and not be our sole source of creativity and spark.

To be fair, I can't imagine even Notts giving a contract that long.

Most of them. I don?t think we need a big summer transfer wise, a handful of quality additions focused on midfield.

In the end we finished pretty close to promotion despite IMO having a manager who is well off the standard and all sorts of bad luck with injuries. No need to rip everything up and start again.
