They don't have to do anything though. The club are 3 points from safety with 11 games to play, and a manager who has a contract which extends way past May. Whatever fans think (and I absolutely think MH is wrong for the role now, and a replacement is required at some point - but ONLY when a proper replacement is secured), the club don't have any obligation to communicate to fans.
They're in a difficult position because they obviously can't outwardly say the manager is failing unless they sack him and have the right man in waiting. They can't say they're standing by him for the rest of the season because that's more or less sacking him in May and disrupts efforts to stay up. They can't say they back him with no specifics because that smacks of the "dreaded vote of confidence". As frustrating as it is, saying nothing is their safest option unless they have a new man coming in.
