Youve got this the wrong way round.

MPs are elected by the people to Parliament. Government is the executive arm of Parliament. The Prime Minister is elected by the party (not the people). The PM hand picks his Cabinet. Parliament exists to scrutinise government.

To prorogue Parliament and carry on with national business goes against our Parliamentary democracy.*

We voted leave to regain democratic control of the country. What Johnson attempted was to override Parliamentary processes; to the run the country through the unelected executive arm of Parliament. This totally opposes the very basis for why 17m people voted to leave the EU.

You may not agree with how MPs are going about its business but that is how our democracy works and, surely, why we voted to leave.

Can you not see the fault in your argument or are you just that stupid?

We voted to leave so by not leaving and as many MP's as possible trying to stop us leaving then you are trying to defend the undefinable undemocratic shambles we have now. Democracy in this country died on the 29 March 2019 so I would suggest that if you want to talk about lack of democracy you think about that and less about what Boris has done.

I am totally astounded that some of you lot just do not see what has just happened and just how serious this verdict was, no matter because when it effects you, which it will, I will take great pleasure in hearing about how you feel you have been wronged.

Yep to be fair it's there, but you didn't go the whole hog. Post before you said split decision. Have a bit more courage in your convictions and you could go far in the law game!!!! 😉

I'm gobsmacked that it was a unanimous decision. That is unusual in itself and demonstrates just how much the court disapproved of BoJo's action.

Does anyone else not think the decision was politically motivated?

Yes but of course such actions would never be contemplated by such upstanding pillars of society even though they are human beings

Yes, I do not think the decision was politically motivated.

The court consisted of 11 senior judges. Could anyone seriously think that they would unanimously agree to disregard their view of the legal position and decide the case on political grounds.

BoJo rode roughshod over Parliament and took an extreme course. The court acted as a guardian of our parliamentary democracy and broke new (and arguably extreme) legal ground to respond.

I think it is regrettable that the parliamentary inertia on Brexit is going to continue, but it would have done irrespective of proroguation.
