Hun scouts on the prowl in meldrum?

AFC should of had scouts at the meldrum primary school playground any night circa 1997. As long as they buggered off after the cider was cracked open.

Its a true story too. He had a trial and got through it.

Back to Dons scouts though. When I was a nipper there was always a scout at my Primary games when there was a few games on (st the likes of Hazleheed). Then at boys club level there were always scouts there. Couple of boys I played with signed for the Dons. A couple other had trials.

Is there still the same level of scouting I wonder?

Heres a recent story about scouts at Aberdeen. A kid from Meldrum has been picked up by sevco. Aberdeen got wind of it and spoke to the kids dad. The dad was asked "why did we not get spoken too". The dad asked if Aberdeen had watched his son at any point which it turned out they hadnt. So they expect to know about good youngsters without watching them. Im no scout but im sure thats nae how it works

Peter Weir now works for other clubs having been our main man in the central belt.

There is an intensive scouting team at Aberdeen but they do cover a very wide area.
They regularly have trials and intensive skills training.
I the last 4 years AFCCT have also taken over the schools football and organise and increased number of games all the way down to Primary 3.

The only place you will ever see an AFC scout at an Aberdeen Primary school game is at the Harlaw pitches, where admittadly there are hunners of matches taking place, but I've never seen them at any other venue.

In the two years my son's been doing boys club footbll, I've never seen an AFC scout kicking around.

Not true.
I've seen them at the Sports Village and at Sheddocksley.
From the Aberdeenshire trials, they picked up boys from all over Aberdeenshire.

seemed like a ludicrous idea given the players we've sourced from the Central Belt over the years.
And given our recent record for having youngsters in out team, it doesn't appear to have worked (albeit I know the young players are a long-term "project")
