They did when it became clear we would not go up automatically.

This season has barely begun, but has any manager looked like he's gonna get us up automatically?

In the fans eyes Ardley was never getting us automatically. The owners must be more considered and careful in their approach than the supporters.

Probably not. Although at this stage last season IB had won 2, drawn 2 including a demolition of Barnet on opening day and an impressive point at Wrexham so could easily be argued yes.

I know Barrow and Stockport didn't look like getting automatic this early in their respective seasons.

durhampie, I thought you said the owners sacked NA because he wanted to do it the Frank Sinatra way, now you are saying they sacked him because he wasn't going to get us up automatically. Make your mind up.

IB became available, so was a good excuse to get rid of Ardley. As we know some worshipped the ground Ardley walked on, so would be hard to get rid of, plus like it or not, he stayed loyal through the mess we were in, so the Owners weren't going to pull the trigger as soon as they walked in.
IB was the man they wanted but was tied down to another club, then became free. Barnsley were sniffing around too, so Notts jumped.

They took their time appointing him, he had been out of work since the summer of 2020. We appointed him in March 2021..

    That sounds about right Pete.

Personally I wanted NA to see that season out as I stated many time, I think he deserved that one final change but like (I imagine) all fans I had no idea about IB nor his availability. Who did?
So that changed everything for the owners. If the man they had identified to potentially replace NA at end of the season becomes available during it , and he attracted interest elsewhere, they had to move.

This last part is something not everyone could get their head around, it changed everything.

Defeat against Chesterfield would have left us a mighty mountain to climb for automatic. Yes, this early in the season. Ask Klopp. Defeat on Saturday will be the start of a real **** show. Who knows if it is down to coach or recruitment or owners, we just aren't convincing champions elect, are we?
