I'd say this is why an appointment is taking so long. Not too many Coaches like to be told what to do. Some will buy in to it, others will say fcuk that after the interview
Has something happened with Notts I?m not aware of recently as it feels like I?ve missed something.
As far as I know we moved to the head coach model towards the end of the Ardley era and it?s hasn?t changed since. Of course it will put some people off but why would they apply when it?s quite clear what the role is? This isn?t alien in the industry and becoming a lot more common over here too.

How many clubs use this model? I bet less than a handful especially outside the Prem. Coaches will apply to see if the rumours of how we operate are true & some just for nothing to lose experience. We know the owners want the ball on the ground & players signed without a Coach in place. We did it last week, we signed players in Jan for the future not for the here & now to push on in the autos. We did it before Williams came in. Ardley had to change his style under them & struggled

I think fans should give up on the idea of some ex-player or coach being in charge of the HR of a company the owners subsidise with their own money

Less than a handful? I googled ?how many clubs in the EFL have a director of football? as that?s primarily the indicator of a model similar to ours? Head Coach deals with the players? DoF the running of the club which will include player recruitment. The answer was at least 18 of 24.
If you were a more than decent football manager/head coach the Notts job would appeal. It?s less work. That said, you would want some say in player recruitment, which I know LW alluded to was a collective effort.
I really don?t think the Notts job is unappealing to the many prospects out there? football has evolved and statistics have never ever been so prominent. Having owners who excel at this side has to be a huge plus for Notts and any new HC.

Older coaches might do that, because they came up in the era of 'football managers' controlling all aspects of the team, but the younger generation of coaches are much more attuned to the 'Head Coach' concept, where they're one part of a bigger machine. They still have an important say in all aspects, such as recruitment, but not the only say. I suspect that's one reason why all of the brothers' appointments have been relatively young. It's too simplistic and probably inaccurate to say the club are after yes men, but they're certainly after Head Coaches who can operate as part of a team, alongside the DoF and others.

I don't know if we've already found the new man but it's not been announced but that was my initial impression

It's perhaps too brutal to say we want a yes man but I suspect we're wanting a candidate who's prepared to work in a collegiate way with the board and the rest of the senior management team
With the recruitment dept. bringing in players that can be improved and hopefully sold on at a profit, regardless of whether they play in positions where we are short
It's unlikely that any high profile candidates will work under those terms, when after all, it's the manager who gets the sack if he doesn't get success (even if his title is 'head coach')

    Exactly this is spot on.

My belief is if you dont rate/trust certain players as head coach / manager you aren't going to play them end of.

The model we use is fine apart from the only issue I think is that a great coach isn't often a good man manager or leader. For me, LW had both, great coach and a manager who had abit about him. We need both in the next manager.

The down side to that is if he gets a player he doesn't like/trust then that is a waste of a wage and a squad position.
But I get the previous couple of posts about the modern manager and his requirement to be part of a team.

That can happen in the old model too as we saw Nolan liked Duffy whilst Kewell rightly wanted him out.

As manager the buck stops with you so you will pick who you trust that doesnt change whatever the model.

Ideally the management team are all on the same page which on the whole for us it has been imo.
