Thread: McClown

    re: McClown

Taking into account all the injuries right up the spine of the team (sounds like they had back and neck problems like me) and the need but inability to successfully change our style of play due to the lack of central strikers to replace Martin,I'm surprised we stayed near the top so long - perhaps it was the goals of Ince and Bent that saved to much embarrassment. Bent can nick a goal out of nothing and Ince can cut in and strike a ball from the corner of the box or smash in a free kick but overall team play as been poor since the injuries built up. Unfortunately I didn't think when they occurred we would be in a position to strengthen due to FFP but when we did it was always wide players. I personally would sooner have brought in a central striker, rather than Lingard. Just my opinion of course but have played at a reasonable level at a young age and watched derby since the 70's and always noticed that if you had too many injuries down the centre of the pitch, you sstruggled.

Let's just hope whoever is in charge next season can strengthen the right areas of the team, perhaps bring a little experience and sort out our soft centre, which we quite clearly have.

If we assume nobody is going (just to make it easier to see what we need, I know some 'will' go, obviously):

Defence - We have struggled at RB since Brayfords first pre injury season, we struggled before him and after him, with a partial respite from Wisdom. Christie is not a first choice. Unfortunately, good fullbacks aren't easy to come by, which is why we have struggled. So we need a good RB and someone to replace Forsyth.

Forsyth frustrates me, he can actually be very good but the problem with him seems to be less his physical or technical ability but his head. Someone described him recently as looking like a scared rabbit caught in the headlights every time he got the ball, which pretty well sums up his mental fragility.

I'm not convinced by Keogh but him and Buxton do make a decent partnership when they play regularly together. Trouble is that Bucko has had injury problems and I think the biggest single problem this season has been that the defence has never been a settle

As I have just stated in another post I hope he does go. The team now is that poor that it was a good job the season didn't carry on any longer or who knows how far down the table we'd of fallen. This team he's built look inept of ability, ideas and the confidence in Mac looks to be gone. Most neutrals still rate him as the 'wally' and I'm sure most Derby fans would be laughing at the demise of a club falling from 1st to 8th if they were watching him do it at a rival club..most would be saying 'we don't want him as our manager' but when you've been starved of any kind of excitement for a few years then its easy too see why some people want to cling on to any llittle moresal of excitement even when it has brought no success

I personally, absolutely dread what this guy might purchase in the summer, based on his latest signings. Loans are OK but once they leave, the skeleton left behind, seems weaker and the permanent players who its left without much game time end up being a shadow of t

I want him gone and I would like someone who can build a proper and stable team that we can call our own and doesn't leave us bare and worse off, with absolutely nothing to show for it at the seasons end

Do you really believe all this? Don't think you can argue that Wisdom, Dawkins, Thorne and Bamford didn't improve the team last season. The improved performances were not just down to coaching.
