The EU has ruled that Apple must pay tax on their profits within the EU and as they are based in Ireland for those operations they must pay 13 billion euros to the irish government. This is more than enough to run the Irish health service for a year! The Irish government are appealing the decision as they want to keep Apple in their country. (they don't want the money) Apple paid the equivalent of 0.0005% taxation on their profits and as such an individual earning 200,000 euros would be contributing more tax than the worlds largest company. If that isn't ****ed up then I don't know what is.
Anyway Apple has now put the 13 billion euros into a holding account whilst the appeal is pending. I believe they found it down the back of a sofa at their corporate HQ.
The next story I saw was Frank Field telling parliament about a guy who went to see him at his surgery to talk about Universal credit and how he wanted to kill himself because he couldn't feed his family. His neighbour had invited him to a funeral, not because he knew the deceased but because he would be able to get something to eat at the wake.

Interesting view from the standard , edited by a certain Gideon Osborne .

The man responsible for giving tax breaks to the wealthy whilst nailing the less well off to the floor .

He'd be the first to face the guillotine if we had a revolution if it was left to me .

A tory MP in tears over her governments treatment of the less well off , switch parties then love if it hurts you so much .

Nar , thought not , once the camera's are turned off you will vote for more cuts won't you dear .

Too far down the line myself to be convinced by a tory pyssing out of her eyes for the less well off in this country .

    2. Post 23 – Roly appeared to reject that position (although looking at his post again, it is not clear) and asserted that increased levels of poverty have been a long standing issue.
    3. Post 26 – I point out to Roly that the JSF report to which you linked confirms that Over the last 20 years, the UK has dramatically reduced poverty among people who had traditionally been most at risk
    4. Post 31 – you confirm what I said about the JSF report.

So presumably - if we accept your assertion that the JSF report amounts to proof - we can agree that the neo-liberal policies that the new Left despises have dramatically reduced poverty. Despite that, you support a party that wants to turn the country’s back on those policies in favour of the failed tax, borrow and spend policies of the past.
No Kerr, once again you've ignored totally what i've posted and told me i've missed the point, dress it up as much as you like..

    3. Post 26 – I point out to Roly that the JSF report to which you linked confirms that Over the last 20 years, the UK has dramatically reduced poverty among people who had traditionally been most at risk....Ignoring the other facts posted regarding those gains in reducing poverty were being eroded massively by this gov't, your gov't...

    4. Post 31 – you confirm what I said about the JSF report....I confirmed nothing of the sort, i posted word for word, play little games all you like Kerr, it's a bit pathetic to be honest...

    5. In summary, YOU are supporting a gov't and party which, as proven, is dramatically increasing poverty across the board in this country and you should be ashamed.

Yet there is still some misguided notion that Labour Left wingers are pro EU and Tories are the party to remove us from the evil institute. It is totally the opposite.

It's the Kerr world where there are no food banks, there are loads of well paid jobs, good housing for all, a health care system fit for everybody, only he lives in it though because I don't know who else does? There are no socialists in that world because it is their fault that poverty is caused.

One more thing, yes Kerr, i support a party that wants to turn the country back, back to one of investment in it's own people and infrastructure, back to a country that cares for it's people, take me back to a place where work was rewarded, where the state didn't have to subsidise low wages, back to a place where a trainee nurse didn't run up a £50k debt(or a lawyer for that matter, i take it your uni education was free....)back to a place where the utilities were ran from a national viewpoint rather than a profit one, back to a place where public transport was cheap, i see you beloved privatised railways are hiking the fares up again....TAKE ME BACK TO A COUNTRY THAT CARES.....

Neo Liberalism reteric is all fare and well but there is a growing swayhe of our population that feel left behind by it and looking for another way.

People cant get decent full time jobs (zero hour contracts, outsourse contract work, minimum wage, outsoursing our industrial base to low cost countries). There is no longer an ideal of jobs for life. People are struggling to get on the housing market (both rental and buying - caused initially by selling off council housing) and high unility bills (caused by privatising our utilities).

Add in to the already squeezed we get 10 years of Tory austerity (led by ideology but blamed on Lebour).

People are searching for a new way and Momentum Labour are growing in the polls.

Just add - a big part of the Brexit campaign was to blame much on this on the EU. Yet Dyson, as supporter of Leave, already outsourses production to Malaysia and India (oh , and by the way, we dont need to leave the EU to trade globally - Dyson already trades with 120 non EU countries).

Question..Each person is told that if they both confess to the serious crime they will receive a sentence of 3 years. However, each is also told that if he confesses and his partner does not, then he will get a light sentence of 1 year, and his partner will get 10 years. They know that if they both deny the serious offence they are certain to be found guilty of the lesser offence, and will get a 2 year sentence.

    ...what would you do MMM?

This is an economic principle based on EU construct of the Oligopoli
In Tory Britain they each do what they can to save their own skin. They hope the other guy goes inside. While that person is banged away they do all they can to steal their business.

Correct, as do Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, and many others, the list is long.
