Furlough Scheme extended to October--good news ?

As always with Rishi the devil is in the detail. Companies will "share" the cost of the Scheme from August but details on that "to follow". Does it mean 50/50 with the company paying 50% of a wage and the Govt 50% from August ? Could result in a cliff edge for redundancy announcements in August with companies unable to pay their share if they still have little or no income. Smoke and mirrors from Rishi ?

Well I'm in the back garden every day weather permitting , just laid a new patio and I'm building some raised beds at the moment .

Hoping to get an outside bar started and completed before I have to go back on the new patio area .

Niver going to have an opportunity like this to crack on with all the jobs I'd planned bart using mi own holidays .

I haven't time to be bothering with this work game .

In fact it's got me thinking about ragging this work game up or going part time to tell the truth .

    What is clear--

Furlough Scheme extended to end of October

Employees to receive same amount until then ie 80% of wage up to £2500 per month

    What is not clear

From August who is going to fund that 80% ? All we know is that Rishi is bringing in a new arrangement to "share" the cost of the 80% with the company concerned but we will not know the detail of the split of the share until the end of May. This is the great unknown. Will it gradually increase or be fixed ? Companies that have income will welcome the new scheme as the Govt is paying a proportion of their employees wages. It is companies such as those in tourism and hospitality which may continue to have little or no income but will now be expected to pay a proportion of the furlough wage. It is quite possible they might say, "Sorry mate, we'll evtto let you go".
Rishi will of course have reduced the Govt share.

Confusion and worry will emerge again until those "further details" appear.
As it is today the headline is "Chancellor Extends Furlough Scheme"

I never envisaged this when I signed up. In any other walk of life a receptionist/admin member would be doing their garden or bouncing their child on their knee right now. Not in this f ecked up country.

Do you think the tax payer should keep paying the full 80% SB . I worry where the money will come from to pay for it all. Big Tax rises I’m presuming

As Rishi said at the start of all this, "Whatever it Takes". I follow the Rishi. His word is his bond.

The Government borrows the money from the international money market.
The Government accumulates a debt too large for the present tax income and Govt spending to service
The Government raises taxes and decreases public expenditure for a decade or more (austerity)
The Ordinary Joe bears the greatest proportion of the pain paying back the bill to the money market

Well over a million, particularly in tourism and hospitality, will lose their jobs because their companies will not be able to pay their share when the new system kicks in. The Govt (ie the public) will still pay the bill only this time as Universal Credit having wrecked the tourism industry.

Alok's hair looked tidy. Dun't Minister's hair grow ? Its been seven weeks since hairdressers shut.
