    If still unsure ...

Ask a more elderly honest Stags fans how he feels about the amount of joy and success those in Amber and Blue have given them over all those years supporting the stags. Then you will get your answer to your multitude of questions. F

Mansfailed are better than us "right now" and last season and in recent seasons albeit they've not got any closer to promotion to L1 than us in that time. This is after all their golden period and this is our worse ever period in our history.

    That says it's all.

    You can't deny history UTM

Oh I'm the last person to deny history, but it's just not and cannot be allowed to be more important than the present and the future. For me personally what happened between 1982 and the mid-1990s is by the far the most significant period and always will be, because of my age, but those years will mean next to nothing to supporters born since that time, ditto to the current players, staff and owners and even less to people born in the future. For the club's own sake it's what happens today and tomorrow that is the most significant.

Would a Stags fan like to swap zero significant honours for two FA Cups and 61 seasons in the top two tiers? Would they seriously want to be a Bury fan?

We are non-league for god's sake. Rank Nottinghamshire's Football League clubs in order and we're not even on the list.

Why didn't Juventus ask Mansfield to open the new ground?

    They missed a trick there!

I really don't care who is the 'biggest'.

To me, Notts are all that matters.

Why choose Bury? Stick with your original comparison.

Would a Mansfield fan in say his 40s would have liked to have seen their side play all the top English sides in the top flight? Seen back to back promotions at Wembley, be clear L2 winners twice , won (and lost) an Anglo Italian cup , open Juve's stadium, FA Cup quarter finals? Would they swap?

Or are they happy with their National League title and their Freight Rover Trophy win?

Go any further back and it gets even more depressing for them.

As for right now (the present) they are poor and we are very poor in footballing terms. Is it the signing of Nigel Clough that has you panicking and the impressive victory at FGR? It's a good appointment IMO but its Mansfield, they could do a Rotherham or Doncaster with a bit of luck and a fair wind or they could just carry on being Mansfailed.

As for the future, well we don't know do we nobody does but we are in a more stable position with a better chance of success now than we were under the last owner(s).

In the past yes, now - no.
It's because of them that Alan Hardy posted that pic of himself by accident whilst arguing with them on social media, for which I expect they will think they played a big part in our relegation, they will be laughing at us now and who can blame them. We are a joke compared to Mansfield Town in 2020, so I'm left wondering if Notts are going to do anything about it or just carry on as we are.

We only lean on the past if we are viewing the unofficial Nottinghamshire pecking order in today's terms only, which is a microcosm of a clubs identity.

We shouldn't worry about anything Mansfield Town FC until we are in the same division. We certainly didn't worry about them all those many many seasons we were in the higher division.

I don't see the relevance tbh. We've got our own battles to face and hopefully win as we try to get back into the football league.

I see what you're saying, but this appointment really has brought it home to me just how far Notts have fallen. Stags are our 2nd nearest neighbours, you hear about them constantly if you listen to Radio Nottm.

There's not been anything to get excited about with Notts since Hardy was in gear. I probably should just give up on bothering with them at all, but I won't because it did mean everything at one time, I'm always gong to care, but it is worse now than ever, even taking into account the financial crisis. Becoming comfortable in tier 5 is an all time low, I don't care what anybody says, this is the absolute pits for Notts.

I'm going to quit this thread now because I'm boring myself into a dark depression with my own ramblings.

I think it's a good appointment for Mansfield .... I think they will do well .... but I really don't think it's any reason to sink into the depths of despair.

I wouldn't worry about it UTM, it's a good appointment but I was more worried when Steve Evans became their manager. Mansfailed have been so unsuccessful for so long they can't laugh to loud. They are living off absolute scraps, bless em.

You are right it was exciting under Hardy and Trew they never shut up in the media, over promising and under delivering. However for all the fun and excitement it was destined for failure because both were living well beyond their means. You want to seriously go back to those days? If so you are mad, we need stability , we need sustainability, we need a realistic plan. What this club doesn't need is financial disaster again!

The fact that we were 3 or 4 divisions higher might agree with you.

It was even better in the early 80s imo. Not only were we playing the top teams, we were competing on level terms. 3 years in the top league 2
