Far better result than I anticipated. The important thing now is to try build on that.

Lots of folk mentioning the defensive strategy & the three/five at the back being as a result of the two 4-0 humpings. We actually played three at the back in one of those humpings, then played four at the back for the next five matches until the Sheep game. We then reverted back to a back four for another two games after that. Whilst it is a very cautious approach, I'm not sure it can be blamed on the two 4-0 humpings. It seems like it's a system the manager wanted to play vs the bigger teams Celtic, Rangers, then Aberdeen and is one he's seen has since /worked in terms of containing teams & picking up points, so has taken into certain other games. Certainly doesn't seem like a knee jerk reaction to the two 4-0 defeats.

Sorry if I bore you but i'm not into back 3s, back 4s or back 5s. Or back 6s even. It's a product of Sky's domination/annihilation of world football. All I'll say is we have 3 CH's who Mick seems to like & is getting to be a constant. Just out of curiosity tho, was y'day a back 5 or a back 3?

You think Sky have made up a set of tactics which managers across the globe have adopted? Really?

For me it's always a three.

LS was annoyed at not turning that one in tho I'm sure he will next time. We only had 3 corners, one after the other & yeah, AS from the right with his left foot were both 10/10 Other teams have proper corner takers & we never seem to so maybe we're covered now at least from the right & as long as AS is playing. I'd give him left-footed free kicks on goal too. IH's corner was like our default corner, rubbish. He didn't have his best game but I stick by him, he's learning fast & I'm sure by next season we'll have a centre mid to be proud of.
Can you not just call people by their name?

I think the point he's making is that in an effort to fill airtime, Sky have turned the formation of a side into a far more important issue for fans than the actual effect it has on a match.

His opinion I guess. Depends if you're a Sky Sports fan who sits and watches all the analysis or not. I doubt that many do tbh.

As for the effect it has in a game, I think it's there for all to see how a formation affects the way a team plays. We're a completely different side when four at the back as opposed to three. It didn't take Sky Sports to make me see that.

I agree actually, it can have a dramatic effect. Case in point being the change late on in the Aberdeen match. We went from holding them off to looking like we'd win it.

Yip, Hamilton also. We replaced Reynolds with Robson the minute they scored, went four at the back and within 15 minutes were 2-1 ahead.

Having hung on 2nd half I’d have thrown 4 subbies in for fresh legs and just to cause confusion with 5 mins to go, nothing to lose. Put neilson, appere, Fotheringham and powers, and still thrown Edwards up front. Nothing to lose, and we never looked like scoring 2nd half. We have done reasonably well against hibs, Celtic and Rangers at home, but late in those games never looked like scoring.

Chalmers nearly won it for us v the Sheep.

Think we've missed his ability to run at defenders and commit them. Looking forward to having him back.
