Let's get some perspective probably wouldn't go for a pint with Goodwin but wouldn't accompany Lennon to a free brewery to watch a Belinda Carlisle Lingerie tribute act.

My mates a St Mirren fan. He's met Goodwin a few times, says he a very sound bloke and good company.

The buddies fans are gutted they might lose him - that's always a good sign.

As for Lennon - ridiculous suggestion with all due respect. A guy with drink and mental health issues who's done fuuck all without a massive budget advantage.

Put it another way - folk saying he's got the most successful track record, but which of the other candidates would not have managed to achieve similar or better with the advantages he had at the time?

I'd still not be averse to Jack Ross personally, but Goodwin in my view is not a bad option all considered.

I have to confess to a family soft spot to St. Paisley - If the Dons won everything with St.Mirren runners up I could accept that - might even concede the odd league cup.

But apart from the family connections, the fact they stay on the same street and hate the cockroach vomit to the level they do gives them credibility supporters directed from their school days will never have.

Its definitely not for sentimental reasons, Its based on purely football reasons but with a wee hint of "magic Compatibility" That compatibility is a hard one to explain so I'll try, But first "living in the past" its my belief thats what we have been doing for the last 30 odd years !

Compatibility = A connection between the club its history and its fans, A wide experience of fitba management and proven success... and an very ambitious owner, Preferably very rich and willing to back his love of the club with dosh and tonnes of it.. That to be me is all compatible, Picking up Managers willy nilly with a smidgen of promise has been tried tested and failed time and time again, A huge club with huge potential has frittered away to 9.000 crowds a week so lets get a huge name in a legend and in no particular order Black,, McLeish,, Miller,, Strachan and lets try that..

None of those names are currently managing so would be cheap I suppose. I'm not convinced magic compatibility is a thing, still strikes me as pure sentimentality. It may give some fans a warm fuzzy feeling of nostalgia but I don't think it'd make one iota of difference to the players, who unlike us aging dons don't get misty eyed at them mere mention of Gothenburg. Fergie had no connection to us, he was simply a fantastic manager and our chairman choose wisely/got lucky. Unfortunately we just have to keep trying to find that gem...

I can't say who I want as I've not interviewed them. If Black, Strachan or Miller want to apply (not sure if McLeish is a well man) go for it. They're either good managers or they're not...there is no magic involved.

Sounds as if there’s conflicts all round - roles at two SPFL Clubs - now seemingly involved in appointing his old pal Mark McGee. Both great players for the Dons in the 80’s without question but neither appears to have much affinity to the Club now, to say the least … all seems a bit strange!

Me neither, I suppose, but given the shambles we've witnessed in the past 9 months, any new manager's first task has to be to return us to being hard to beat, no matter how dull that makes us. After that, it's trying to build and organise a squad to win as often as possible.

I'm not convinced that Goodwin, or any other journeyman gaffer has the ability to take us any further than McInnes did, especially given the obvious emperor's new clothes rigging of the game on behalf of the establishment.

At 40 and with only a few clubs under his managerial belt, I wouldn't call Goodwin a journeyman just yet...which is why I'd prefer to give him a punt. I was the same with Glass. Better to try and uncover another Fergie than go for the true journeymen...even if it means falling on our face. Ross is a possibility but he's had a few goes now at Sunderland and Hibs and whilst a decent manager he's clearly no 'special' talent. I'd even prefer looking at some young managers in the lower English leagues who have so far improved the sides they've managed in difficult circumstances.
