Very harsh to say Offord is not League 2 standard. In truth, before his suspensions he was good enough for League 1 so I expect to see him regain his form after the summer. That is not to say it wouldn't be handy to bring in an experience CB. I disagree with Mike that MacDonald was poor. He wasn't, but for people to be suggesting (not necessarily on here) that because he has left we are doomed. I mean, get real!

I stand chastised and rightly so, as the regular match goers will know the ability of MD and other players far better than me and I was a bit reluctant to comment on this thread as rightly said, highlights can show the good and bad which doesn't always reflect the rest of the game.

I want us to really get some ambition and somehow feel as though we are going to peddle the same furrow. But then new players don't always add what we want them too..Its a hard thing running a football club..Wages dictate as always!

Macdonald was not a poor signing. He was a good experienced CH, but not worth breaking the bank for. There is not a lot of future in offering 31 year olds a 2 year contract. There will be lots of experienced players available on loan without that sort of commitment.
If Offord gets his head sorted, him and Connor will be as good a pairing as any team in our division.

Have to disagree about Offord. His temperament is dreadful. Stupid fouls. Poor in the air. Slow in turning and making decisions, and lacks commitment. Does not have the height or physical strength. Our other CBs are young pros with prospects who require an older experienced leader to guide them, and with all respect Offord is not the one. I do believe it is time for him to move on.

According to Nixon, we are trying to sign Liverpool goalie Harvey Davies (19).

And he's usually right! Hope so, he would be a cracking signing from his reputation

Interestingly, we'll have 2 19 year-olds scrapping for the number one Jersey. I wonder if the Alex are chasing a season long loan or just till January. If the former, doesn't give Booth much to look forward to. I don't think TB has signed a new contract yet either! And Richards hasn't been announced as moving on.

I've read on a few sites that the transfer window opens on Wednesday. I thought the window was open as soon as the leagues finished their seasons.
Perhaps we'll start to hear a bit more/some news after Wednesday.

Saw my mate who is an Alex employee in town today. Seems like I got it totally wrong. I won't mention actual figures but he told me McDonald was offered a contract with substantially more money on the table than last season. Harrogate have more than doubled that offer and two years aswell. Quite scary and worrying really, I didn't know that they had a sugar daddy and Concrete Rod must think Christmas has come early in his twilight playing years.

It just goes to show that we don't really know the ins and outs of what goes on with contracts etc. And nor should we. But we shouldn't be too quick to judge the club. I have seen some saying (not on this site) that we are a joke of a club. In truth, we are nothing of the sort. Probably one of the most stable clubs in the league if the truth be known.
