Even the members are having a go at the Aussie in the long room!
And the spineless MCC have apologised to the Aussies for the members behaviour
We didn’t lose that test because of bad sportsmanship with the Bairstow wicket.
In fact it spurred stokes on or we would have lost by more.
Root didn’t get a knock and we collapsed yesterday. All this without having to face Lyons.
Better side won.
Still a bunch of you know what.
I agree but it was 'gutter' sportsmanship none the less. Akin to the Leeds v Aston Villa situation the other year. Bairstow had been doing the same thing regularly before and so,as I see it,the Aussies should have warned him of it before acting on it.What I agree with you on is on the series so far as a whole. From the declaration in the 1st innings at Edgbaston to the swash buckling 'bazball',paddle sweeps on the first ball of the day.......it's revolutionary if you win.......but you end up looking like a d**k if you get beat five, nil!
The atmosphere at Lords after the Bairstow incident was febrile! If it had happened at Edgbaston, goodness knows what would have happened! Carey & Cummins will be forever tarnished for their lack of sportsmanship. That said, fantastic day's cricket, one of the greatest Ashes innings ever, and grateful I was there to witness it! Fromafar - muchos schooners post match!!
I do think Australia would have won anyway, but because of the incident with the bairstow dismissal, the last place Australia would have wanted to play after this is Yorkshire, and I'm sure we will give them a nice Yorkshire welcome over the 5 days. UTM
