If the starting point is that god/God created all things then it's really not very logical to argue that some of the events in the Bible says cannot be true, is it? Of course if your starting point is something else (as yet undefined) then the whole creation and miracle stuff is nonsense.

It all depends on what you believe in and it equally takes an incredible level of faith/(stubborness) to believe we just happened, one which most/all(?) cultures throughout history don't share.

It is disapointing that the club has turned into a religious football regarding the supporters.
Sorry, but imo you have misread the situation.

Dan Crowley did an interview after the Bradford match - when he was presented with the man of the match award he said that he wanted to give the glory to his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Some took it upon themselves to comment on it in negative terms on social media, so Luke Williams said in an article that his faith should be respected.

So we know about his faith not from LW making an issue of it but because he himself brought it up. He's very clear about it on his X (Twitter) profile - as is Bostock and Morias.

Not sure it's a proverbial fire on this thread though - pretty decent discussion with respect shown from both sides.

OK, i have read your reply, thank you. I still believe that this has been an overstep by NCFC.

In all honesty my friends (supporters at NCFC) find it extraordinary that this should be highlighted at a fans forum after a couple of derogatary remarks on twitter, its just bears no resemberlance to our support of NCFC.
I believe a very small amount of supporters would have ever given this topic a second thought...... until it was bought up by LW.

This didn’t come up at the fans forum - the media raised it because social media is now the source of so many non-stories.

    Good post.

It's a cynical age. I don't do 'X' but I imagine anyone proclaiming their beliefs or enthusiasms presents a target to cynical trolls, whose first instinct is to try to shoot down any genuinely held belief.

DC will continue to 'give the glory to his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ' in interviews and that will continue to be red rag to the bull to morons who would be happier if everyone was as cynical as they are. The consolation is that, even online, most want to respect peoples' sincerely held beliefs and the moronic bullies get hit with being intolerant.

I think it reflects well on the club that it advocates on behalf of a group of the playing squad when attacked for no good reason (even on a ridiculous medium like X, where comments are virtually worthless).

If we had a group of 3 followers of Islam in the team who were mocked by fans (?) on social media just for thanking God, I'm guessing it would be an issue. Sounds like it should be. So when 3 christians face the same, the same should apply

Written by Greek speakers 40 to 60 years after Jesus' ministry. No eyewitness testimony. We can't even know for certain what has happened in Israel and Gaza in recent weeks, even with the benefit of satellite communications. Never mind what happened there 2,000 years ago.

The bible blaming the Jews for persecuting Jesus to death. The longest hatred. All very dispiriting.
The Jews described Jesus as a "false prophet", there is only one God, he doesn't have offspring. Though the Romans killed him, the Jewish high priest, (Joseph Caiaphas), gave him up to Pilate. In the 6th Century AD , Muhammadd went to the Jews hoping that they would give him legitimacy, instead they proclaimed him as a false prophet as well. You can see where the problems began. History, be it religious or otherwise, is fascinating.

In the course of Muhammad's proselytizing in Mecca, he viewed Christians and Jews, both of whom he referred to as "People of the Book", as natural allies, sharing the core principles of his teachings, and anticipated their acceptance and support. Muslims, like Jews, were at that time praying towards Jerusalem.[3] During the height of Muslim persecution in Mecca, Muhammad was offered the position of arbitrator in the highly diverse Medina, which had a large Jewish community.[4]

Many Medinans converted to the faith of the Meccan immigrants both before and after Muhammad's emigration, but only a few came from Jewish backgrounds because most of the Jewish community rejected Muhammad's status as a prophet.[3] Their opposition "may well have been for political as well as religious reasons".[5] According to Watt, "Jews would normally be unwilling to admit that a non-Jew could be a prophet."[6] Mark Cohen adds that Muhammad was appearing "centuries after the cessation of biblical prophecy" and "couched his message in a verbiage foreign to Judaism both in its format and rhetoric."[7]

First of all, Dougie, I'm disappointed that you can't spell disappointing.
Secondly, do you really think Luke gave a lecture on pure and godly footballers?
Thirdly, what was the fire he poured petrol onto and where is the evidence it caused a bigger fire?
I think that one of the characteristics of this board that makes it worth spending a few minutes on in a day is its 'bandwidth'. We have a very knowledgeable and, for the most part, articulate audience and it is within their compass to discuss all things football and countless subjects related to it. And why not?
If you don't like the ridiculous amounts of time given over to Strictly at a weekend, (for example) you are in control of the consul or even the off switch. The same applies here. For me, and several others (judging by the take-up) this fred has been quite intriguing and long may it rain (sic).

I think schools should concentrate on the fundamentals: teaching children to read, write and do maths as quickly and as well as they possibly can. (I'm not ignoring science, but you need to have developed the other skills first in order to do yourself justice in science-based subjects).

Once a child is able to read and write to a good standard, they can read a range of texts and opinions for themselves, study a range of evidence and data for themselves, decide what their interpretation of all this information is, and express it eloquently in conversation or in writing.

Too many schools now are teaching kids what they should think and how they should interpret the world, rather than simply concentrating on giving them the skills to think for themselves. Regardless of whether they're being told what to think about religion, race, s.exuality, climate change or any subject you choose to mention, it's not right, and it's not accidental.
What a disappointment you are on this occasion, J2. I never saw you as a Mr Gradgrind. (Do you know your Dickens?) Give them facts and skills and stand back and watch them bloom ... I don't think. What about art, imagination, vision and HOW to think. One curriculum area I incorporated in my teaching days was not recommended by 'the powers that be' and that was thinking skills. Edward de Bono (sadly no longer with us) produced several wonderful packs targeting pupils from age 8 on so they could learn how to think.
One of the best ever educational texts is Postman & Weingartner's 'Teaching As A Subversive Activity' in which they pose the notion that it is our job to teach kids how to ask good questions, NOT provide them with facts, facts and more facts.
Your experience of schools is less than 0.01% of the school population yet you think that gives you a telling insight into what is going on in UK schools. I always read your posts, J2, and you're better than that.

    Good post.

What has come out to me is that Luke Williams wants to keep the squad together, and that he has recognised that whatever others believe, including himself (although I can't remember reading what he believes) when they contribute towards the positive attitude and application of the players, they should be recognised and applauded.
